Farewell to Lawrence.
Peter O’Toole, star of Lawrence of Arabia, dies aged 81
RIP
Loved his blue eyes, he was a handsome man. RIP
Peter Seamus O’Toole? Sounds like a porno stage name.
Lil: This is for ladies only!
Alan Swann: [unzipping fly] So is this, ma’am, but every now and then I have to run a little water through it.
From the Guardian: “We heralded the ’60s,” he once said. “Me, [Richard] Burton, Richard Harris; we did in public what everyone else did in private then, and does for show now. We drank in public, we knew about pot.”
I loved the unabashed zest for life he and his compadres had. A brilliant actor and a great person.
He will be missed.
Heh, From The Ruling Class:
-“How should I prove to you that I am [Jesus Christ]”
-“Show us your Godhead”
-(Starts unzipping)
-“Never mind!”
Alan Swann: “I am not an actor, I’m a MOVIE STAR!” – but he *was *both, and how.
Herb Caen once said, “Peter O’Toole is redundant.”
RIP, trouper.
I should think he’d want to “RIP” at all.
You know it’s weird, but I’m slightly surprised at how “young” he was. Maybe it was the Sid Caesar thread skewing my thinking, but I had it in my mind he would have been around 90.
Ah, well. A life heartily lived, a very few truly atrocious acting jobs ( he slummed and man could he chew scenery if you let him ), but far, far more of some of the most sublime. Made ‘larger than life’ work over and over again. RIP.
Stephen Fry in QI talked about one such public incident:
Yes, it was the very same theater he was supposed to do that part that day!
Lawrence of Arrhythmia. RIP.
Remember the bit when Letterman was doing the show from London?
Peter comes out on a Camel and …

Miss him already

Must’ve been made of sturdy stuff. Never expected him to make it this far.
Oh, how I love Peter O’Toole! Even in the abominable Man of La Mancha movie… I love My Favorite Year. We just watched Becket recently for the bazillionth time, and he was a hoot in Creator. He was on my short list of actors I’d really really like to meet. My heart is broken.
He had such a great time with the whole LOA role, loved the costumes, etc. It was a joy to watch.
I love My Favorite Year, and The Stunt Man, so much, and of course, Lawrence. Those eyes, and that smile always did funny things to my insides.
I hope you raise a little friendly hell on your journey to whatever heaven is in store for you.
Thank you for the great movies.
Did that camel really down a beer? You think he’d spit it out.
I got the impression that the camel in question regularly drank beer but who knows. It sure looked like it did when I watched it live so many years ago. The funny thing about that clip is the fact that I started to write out the details and then remembered about you tube :smack:.
I need to watch “My Favorite Year” again soon.

"My God, I love being King!"
My Favorite Year is probably my favorite Peter OToole movie, though I really liked him on the horse dressed in full reds in Club Paradise when he was playing the Governor. Although I will generally watch him in anything.
RIP:(
