RIP Richard Wright

I heard about this on Monday shortly before leaving work.

As I was walking to the train station, I noticed a parked car with the license plate “PNKFLYD”.

I said to the driver, “Hey, you hear about Rick Wright?”

“Yeah,” was the response.

Nothing else needed to be said.

We had a nice moment of shared sadness over the death of a musician we really liked.

How very sad.

Inside Out is one of my favorite Floyd songs. Such great vocals.

I agree, and I’m so very grateful that I got to hear it live while I had the chance.

Good for you, bummer for me.

I had pretty much stopped being a fan right around the time Animals was released. I rediscovered them last year, and have been a huge fan ever since. I live on the Pulse DVD, and Division Bell is, IMHO, their bestest album ever.

Aww, tdn, I feel bad for you. Not that it’s any consolation, but I like you enough that I’d give up my Pulse concert experience to you if I could. I’d rather have only seen them nce, and you have gotten to see them too.
Anybody heard yet if the rest of the guys are going to do some sort of tribute show? I’d think a little less of them if they didn’t. Like Nick said in his interview with EW magazine, Rick was the George Harrison of the band; he was often overshadowed by the others, but had his own distinctive sound and personality, and they wouldn’t have been who they were without him. (Probably really poorly paraphrased, going from memory.)

Aww, that’s really sweet!

Back in those days, I probably would have had very little interest, though. I was a total classical-head.

Has anyone come across tributes from Roger Waters and Nick Mason?

fuck. I somehow missed this thread the last few days and have seen no mention of it anywhere else. I was listening to TGGITS earlier, and watched a clip of “The making of Dark Side” where they describe how they wrote it and Clare Torry sang it.
Fuck!

Pink Floyd Online has one from each of the guys.

Everything else has been said, and more eloquently, but I’m also completely gutted. Pink Floyd passes into history.

Worst thing about getting old so far: Celebrities that mattered to you start to die.

Head’s up for Wright/Floyd/Gilmour fans in the US: Dave’s new concert film, “Live In Gadansk” will be showing in theaters on Monday, 9/22. They have a fairly large list of theaters (but none in the Bay Area, dammit!)
