RIP Ron Santo

Chicago Cubs Third-Baseman and Broadcaster Ron Santo Dead at 70

Buddha teaches that when you don’t know what to say, you should say nothing. :frowning:

RIP Ron… :frowning:

Moved, respectfully, from MPSIMS to The Game Room.

RIP Ron.

What a shame. He should have never died before getting elected into the HoF.

I hope the baseball writers and veteran’s committee feel shitty for not putting Santo in.

Damn. I just happened to be in Chicago last Sunday and just happened to be listening to WGN to hear what turned out to be his last interview.

I was impressed by his insight.

Damn. :frowning:

I’m sure my dad is down today. It’s nothing like what he’ll feel like when Ernie goes, but…

yeah, class act all the way, he should have made it to the hall first time…

Godspeed Ron (well, as speedy as a legless mad can be) [with all respect, really!!]

Damn.

Ron had a very sharp Baseball mind, which was well-disguised by his less-than-eloquent manner of speaking and utterly emotional approach to broadcasting. It was a combination that, somehow, worked quite well for him.

I got a chance to meet him one night at the restaurant he used to own in Schaumburg. Super nice guy. He will be missed. :frowning:

As an avid Mets fan in 1969, irritated by his heel-clicking and (premature) gloating, I will refrain from commenting on Santo today other than to note that statistically he is very well qualified for the HoF, even taking Wrigley’s friendly confines into account.

He was my favorite player when I was a kid, back when I was a Cubs fan. I think his numbers a good enough for entrance in the HoF.

And now I must respectfully retire to the Celebrity Death Pool thread.
