RIP Scalia

So, I read the rules when I joined today.

It seems that I’m at a serious disadvantage in responding to you.
:frowning:

I’m sure Hillary and Bernie thank him for that.

Nonsense, sock puppet, you can call him an imbecile as well.

Lol.

I don’t know that I would call Scalia a “politician.”

He was a Supreme Court Justice, an appointed position, and the whole point of the SCOTUS is that they’re supposed to be ABOVE all that political nonsense. Scalia, on the other hand, reveled in it, and when anyone pointed out his hypocrisies, his habit of changing arguments when it suited his agenda, and oh yass his CONFLICTS OF INTEREST, his response was usually something like “I’m here for the rest of my life, so suck it, losers.”

I would not say I’m glad he’s dead, but I am glad he can’t shaft any more nonwealthy Americans or screw up my country any more.

I will go so far as to say that Jesus Christ could come back tomorrow, complete with documentation and endorsements from God Almighty, and if Obama nominated him for the SCOTUS, the Republicans in Congress would smear His name up one wall and down the other and dump the nomination faster than Jesus could walk across the Reflecting Pool…

Thanks, it’s strange being a noob again.

Parachuting into new online community from one where I was a 12+ year veteran is an odd thing.

I recommend it for everyone.

That caused my loudest laugh since I heard that asshole died. I have no fear of him haunting me, so I have no qualms about publicly taking pleasure in his death. Despite recent efforts on my part, I am still not a nice person.

nm

Burn in hell, Scalia.

He had spiffing taste in hats/.

Other than that … no, not really.

That’s the only way he’d ever be removed from the Supreme Court …
and it’s about fucking time!!!

I’m disappointed at myself that, within 5 seconds of learning about his death, I thought “I hope Obama gets a chance to replace him during his term.”

I didn’t agree with his politics or many of his SCOTUS decisions. But, I don’t want to speak ill of the (at least recently) dead. As for nice things, he was married, only once, for 56 years. Assuming it was a happy marriage, he must have been doing something right at home. I sincerely hope that I get 56 years with my wonderful wife.

As another poster already said, the death of any one of us diminishes us all. But I hope that the silver lining is that a more progressive justice is appointed in his place.

I hope for peace and comfort to his family and friends. Seventy nine years is a pretty good run but it’s never enough when it’s someone you care about.

This sounds like one of those things that we’re supposed to say, but is not in any way true.

This thread is disgusting. Just because the man was a major league asshole who shit all over the Constitution is no reason to disparage him after he died.

Reactions from other justices were mixed. Clarence Thomas was speechless.

Can we get someone to do a wellness check on Clarence Thomas?

ETA: Damn.

The only way to get him out of office was his death. He wasn’t going to ever step down. Therefore, his death is a very good thing for the country. Thus, I’m glad he is dead. No disgust required.

Scalia was a supporter of Bush’s use of torture, was he not? If so, I’m glad Scalia’s dead. His absence makes the world a better place.

One hopes he’s setting precedent here.

What opinion was that? I tried searching but I just came up with McCollum, and how Scalia mocked him before the DNA exoneration. Did he then go on to say McCollum should stay in jail (maybe I didn’t read far enough).

Whooooooosh!

I’ve never been anti-Scalia, so I have no reason to celebrate his death.

Scalia was disgusting, and his actions really hurt people. Nothing written here hurts anyone.

Perspective. Get some.
