RNC: McCain's speech?

Its like the old line: a recession is when you’re neighbor is out of work, a depression is when you’re out of work. When its your lame-ass brother in law, its welfare, when its you, its a safety net.

Dopey. Got it. Why not the bush twins?

Well, since you’re all clamoring for my opinion on this…

Cheney tonight. Gonna throw some raw meat to the Troglodyte right, fire up the base, tear a chunk out of Kerry. Right now, as I type, they are adjusting the nuances. How far to go?

I’m betting too far, 7 to 5. Pundits and talking heads, talking about whether or not Cheney went too far when he suggested that Kerry wears his wifes undies.

“Well, we don’t really know, do we? There is some doubt about that, but all Kerry has to do is pull down his pants, but he refuses to do it!…”

Arnold’s speech was focused on the things that will encourage average Joe to vote Republican: capitalism, patriotism, the military, and terrorism. He had very few lines about the economy, but they made the biggest soundbite. It’s not that the line offends average Joe, it’s just that it makes him think about the wrong things.

Cheney has apparently been asked not to work blue during his speech tonight.

It’s an Onion link. Scroll down to News In Brief.

Miller and Chaney speeches? Thoughts, comments?

-XT

Oh, and any speculation on what Bush will talk about tomorrow night? More of the same? Will he speak about the economy?

-XT

“Anakin” Miller: Mealy-mouthed slander of John Kerry coupled with fluffy, unsubstantiated praise for the Chimp.

Cheney: More of the same.

Don’t the Republicans have any case at all to make for Bush? Can’t they do anything but lie about John Kerry?

Go to my Kerry’s Record and tell me what you think were lies DtC…if you like. Would appreciate your thoughts there.

Cheney’s speech after Szell Millers was like a damp cloth on the forehead of a swamp fever victim.

…Batting the big, brown, Bambi eyes…“Lies? What lies?”

Well, just for starters, anybody in their right mind knows…knows…that nobody, ever, ever, is going to vote against body armor for the troops. The vote was complex, and Kerry’s objection had to do with funding, which is to say, how to pay for what had to be done.

Saying that Kerry voted against body armor for the troops is like saying he gave a speech, pulled out his pecker and stapled it to the podium while singing “Red Sails in the Sunset” at the top of his lungs!

Why screw around with puny lies, little fibs like treason, treachery, cowardice…why not go for the gold?

“Kerry is negotiating a surrender treaty with Osama, with France as a go between. Rumor has it that he has talked Osama down to 1000 virgins per year in tribute and the State of Texas. Counter offer: 900 virgins and we keep Texas.”

I mean, if you intend to insult the intelligence of every American voter and wipe your ass on the dignity of…oh, forget it. We get what we deserve, we get what we’ll put up with. And this gibbering rabid monkey is it…

The most powerful nation in human history, thousands of lives depend on our merest whim…and this is what we get for deliberation and reasoned debate!

I’m mad as hell, and I’ve been taking this shit for thirty-five years…but I ain’t dead yet! Get your filthy mitts off my flag, you lying sack of shit! Not just no, HELL, No! Not today, not tomorrow, not ever.

Xtisme,

I’ll comment on RNC strategy. Its all about 9/11, opportunity (read economic freedom) and sugary emotional content (with religious doses added).

Will it work ? Yes. Voters aren’t very rigid about checking truths. Plus like Hollywood discovered sometime ago… americans love emotional BS. They kept repeating “horror” about 9/11 over and over again. If Kerry uses this against them it might work. Cashing into a tragedy is backfire material.

Will attacks on Kerry backfire ? Not likely. You made a good point about “light hearted” attacks on Kerry. That worked… otherwise it would be a negative campaign. The GOP would come across as nasty. Now they just seem a tad arrogant.

“strike a cord with the independent and non-aligned voters?” - hhmm… who are the independent and non-aligned would be a good question to start with. These mysterious creatures nature would help answer which convention works best. Anyone not aligned until now probably doesn’t watch TV or reads newspapers anyway. I’d venture that the DNC was better for minorities and working poor. RNC seems more general and appeals more to some american values.

I really liked the grilling that Democrat turn coat got from CNN’s Blitzer. He came across as very biased and that he didn’t do his homework. The senior strategist for Kerry answered really well some stuff… though he did go around the flip flip question.

Final note… the public, this was mentioned in this thread before, did seem bored or emotionless in the RNC… was it the same in the DNC ? They must be for hours in there… and trapped inside due to protests outside.

Thoughts or comments about the Presidents speech tonight? The first half was kind of a departure from speeches I’ve heard at other conventions…more like a state of the Union address I suppose. He laid out pretty well his domestic agenda.

To me it was more schizophrenic Bush. On one had he is talking about increasing social programs at gods know how much more expense. On the other hand he is pushing the right buttons for free trade and other conservative fiscal themes. Over all I found myself nodding more than I was rolling my eyes for this part of the speech.

The second half of his speech was more an appeal to emotion, and more like what I normally expect from a convention speech…more like what we got from Kerry. I have to say though that over all, Bush’s speech was better than Kerry’s from a content perspective. Kerry I think made a serious tactical mistake I think by not speaking more to his own record and not giving more content on what he thinks and what he will do if he becomes President…because I think that left the door open for the Republicans to define his record, and to define his positons.

p.s. Did anyone catch Kerry’s speech after the president’s speech? It was kind of odd to have a speech like that after the convention.
