RO alert: British tabloids sink to an all-time shit-sucking low

Forgive me for laughing, but that really is fucking funny. What on earth did she expect?

At one point I asked her, “can’t you see how I might be a bit offended by you comparing me to the Nazis?” and she honest to god replied, “No I can’t”.

I mean, I just don’t know where to go from there.

Home. Alone. As soon as possible.

Thing is, if she’s in the dating game, she must have to do that schtick with about 99.9% of the UK’s male population. So maybe she storms out of dates all the time.

Did she look like this?

I was envisioning the date going something like this.

Back on topic: an interesting interview on Radio 4 this morning with a major NI shareholder (Larry somebody). He said that Rupert was a numbers man - he had his book of numbers and would go around to all the divisions and talk over the numbers part of the business. As long as everything was fine there, he just let the people he put in charge get on with whatever they were doing.

Which seems reasonable (although less so in hindsight), but doesn’t excuse him being less informed about issues which in the past have garnered significant media attention, court cases and previous parliamentary hearings. I wouldn’t expect him to micromanage but he ought to be on top of the big legal stuff.

Maybe the Swedish equivalent of that

I sent an SMS to an Irish friend when she was in the toilet, about an hour before she walked out. “Not my sort but … beer goggles”. In retrospect, I think that first part of that was putting it rather mildly.

On topic:
Anyone sacked/quit today? It is lunchtime, there must have been someone by now.

Sorry didn’t realise you were in Sverige.

Cameron is currently giving a statement in Parliament - he’ll be open for questions after that - there then follows a debate, no motion is proposed though, so no voting by MPs. The important bit will inevitably be the next hour and half.

The Guardian linked to John Stewart dealing with yesterday’s events. It’s worth a watch if you haven’t seen it.

I’m insulted that you don’t have every aspect of my life committed to memory. Who the hell do you think you are?

A really obnoxious coworker of mine is moving to another company! I’m pretty sure she wasn’t implicated in the hacking scandal, though.

You should probably hack her phone to find out.

I’m a militant vegan, you Nazi.

While watching the Daily Show clip linked above I found the followingabout Piers Morgan getting sniffy about a Conservative MP suggesting that he was involved in phone hacking too.

The MP? Louise (Bagshawe) Mensch.

Yeah, Louise - show some balls!

I thought this was the definitive Piers Morgan book

(NSFW due to naughty word on book cover)

The current statement and questions are not a good advert for the UK’s brand of Parliamentary democracy. Dogmatic questioning on the same points (Coulson and BSkyB are the two main ones) from the Labour benches, in an effort to browbeat a different response out of Cameron. Cameron throwing back insults at the Labour Party, claiming that they are just as in it as he is and adding snide remarks (at one point, even lowering himself to say “Gotcha” at the opposition bench). It’s all very juvenile and faintly depressing - we’re going to be far better served by Parliament going on recess and the investigations actually getting under way.

And Tories asking “questions” which are basically just excuses to moan about Labour or set ups for Cameron to do so.

No one is coming out of this well.

Yeah, this is hopeless. Cameron won’t answer direct questions (which company vetted Coulson, asked twice, dodged twice), the Tories are setting up soft questions to give Cameron an opportunity to attack the Labour front bench and Labour seem to be asking the same questions over and over again, forgetting that they’re just as guilty as the Tories anyway.

In fairness, Labour also did this when in power.

Oh I agree. I was just adding that to the list of reasons why the Q&A was more or less pointless.

I have just received the latest copy of Private Eye. As you can imagine it’s full of “I told you so’s”, reprints of various critical articles about Murdoch dating as far back as 1969, and a long article about the tax-avoidance tactics of Murdoch’s business empire. To cap it all, the front cover now proclaims “Private Eye Incorporating News Of The World”, with a picture of the two Murdochs plus Brooks and with the caption “Gotcha , Murdoch Goes Down With All Hacks”.
