Although, as Mr. Towers said, he might have had better luck if he had done everything else but refrained from shooting himself.
Maybe he had a palpable feeling of resentment, rage, and/or entitlement concerning casual social interactions with women that came across when he interacted with them? I haven’t read much of his own writing, except what has been posted here, but he seemed to feel that he wasn’t able to get what he wanted from women, which could indicate arrogance and selfishness, as well as possibly a manipulative approach that might have been obvious to the women he pursued. Good social skills in the work place don’t always correlate to even adequate social skills outside of work.
Or maybe it’s just that all the bitches he met were filthy little teases.
I blame Borat.

There’s a lot of… shall we say, socially challenged people in the SCA, but it ain’t nicknamed the ‘Society of Consenting Adults’ for nothin’.

You both forgot to use the sudo command.

Amazing bit of logic on his part, unfortunately all too human.
“The world won’t do what I want it to do (grant all my wishes), so therefore I have no control over my life.”
No, sorry. “The World” is made of of other people who are busy working on their own shit. Of course they won’t do what you want them to do. This doesn’t mean that you have no control over your life, it only means that you don’t have control over others. You have control over your own choices.
But apparently, the choice was never made to think “Gee, why am I such an anti-social dick?” and then do something constructive about it.
No, instead, it’s “Lash out at random people who don’t know me from Adam” time.
Yeah, that’ll learn 'em.
Too bad that instead of turning violent, he didn’t try to enact an affirmative action program or nondiscrimination legislation to swing things his way;)
I bet the percentage of violent, sick men is much smaller than you’d think, Claire. I’ve known a lot of guys in my life, and have (luckily) only ran across one or two that I believe would be capable of this level of violence against women. Or any violence against women, for that matter.
I think our society accepts violence like it’s a casual thing, and therein lies the problem, IMO. Honestly, I really do think that mass shooting was a taboo that’s been broken and it’s become more “acceptable”, if you will, in the mind of the violently crazy.
There is no truth behind “Men do this” or “Women do that”. Neither gender has cornered the market on shocking acts of inhumanity.
No shit. After the public leaves, things loosen up considerably. Mead flows, corsets are unfastened, and nerds get laid like you wouldn’t believe. Sword-Carrying Assholes they might be, but they get some.
George Sodini may have killed three women in a selfish, pre-meditated killing spree, but at least he didn’t hurt men’s feelings with an internet post. I think we know who the real monster is here, Claire, hmm?
Well, what do you want people on here to say about the guy? Obviously everybody on the board is against killing sprees (I hope, anyway). Is it a surprise to you that people respond to the thread by making sick jokes or criticizing some of the assumptions of the OP?
I don’t think it has to do with “hurting men’s feelings” so much as it does the downright stupidity of the claims in the OP. Ascribing the motives of an insane mind to all members of a society/gender/political party/etc. is philosophically lazy no matter what the subject. The fact that she brought up stereotypes to make her case made it even more worthy of ridicule.
Pssh. Spoken like a true man. Why don’t you shut the fuck up and go oppress someone?
Well, we would have practically been neighbors.
And when do I get my goddamn sandwich?
And I my blowjob?
Seems like Binarydrone and Jimmy Joe Meager could work out a trade of some sort…
I’m perfectly willing to hurt mens’ feelings as needed. I’m also perfectly willing to hurt womens’ feelings as needed. I’m an equal opportunity feeling hurter-er.
It’s not fair nor right to say that this heinous act was bred purely out of misongyny. (Ok, I’m not going to verify the spelling. I’m gonna wing it!) I see and hear about all the mass shootings in the last decade and the one common link seems to be rage and a sense of entitlement and drive for vengeance (I’m gonna wing it on that one, too.) and an inability to cope and mental illness.
I don’t agree with the OP’s assesment. And I certainly don’t agree with stereotyping gender, whichever gender you mean.
Actually, considering who I just found out that woman is, I’m pretty sure she would have approved anyhow. At least, that’s what they said about her in high school. I obviously haven’t grown up since then.
So here’s a funny twist, that life is full of. Mom’s coworkers (married couple and friends of the family) usually hit that gym after work. Well the husband got held over late and the wife went early without him. Unmotivated without her hubby, she left early. The husband, originally planning to make up the workout without the wife, cancelled and instead went to one of our favorite hangouts. They missed the gunman by less than an hour.
Now, what’s wierder (for me) is that on the way out, she said bye to another coworker of theirs. Later, as he left the gym, he was standing at the front reception desk when the dude walked in. He saw the lights go out and saw the muzzle flashes, so he bolted for the door. Afterward he went back in and tried to treat some of the victims. He says he didn’t sleep at all the night due to the disturbing images seared into his brain.
