Speaking of standards, this illustrates the point I’ve been trying to get through to doorhinge. If s/he insists that their SN is not automatically capitalized, fine. I just left it lower case in the first sentence of this post, even though I think it looks dumb. But the last sentence of your first paragraph, that ends in “not so much”? That’s just wrong. The first word of a sentence needs to be capitalized, no matter what it is. (If you really want to avoid capitalizing a word like this one, then fall back on the classic style guide advice and “rework the sentence” so that you move the word away from pole position.)
