You still automatically, and erroneously, equate “pulling a fast one” with “negative feelings” on my part. Maybe it would clarify things if I told you that some of my favorite movies are about con artists, or heists. I like Ahmed and his father *more *if they pulled a con job here than if he just dumped a clock into a case. I just want to be like “haha, I figured it out–nicely played though!”
Well that only changes the type of bias, if it exists, and I’m not sure how one can conclude this or think it likely without some sort of bias, considering the evidence.
I really don’t get this. Look, we can all agree that islamophobia is a big problem, and this clock thing exposed a pretty bad case of it in this suburb. It’s a good thing that this happened, in that the idiocy of the police there is now a matter of public record. They may think twice before being islamophobic assholes in the future.
The only question is whether Ahmed exposed this islamophobia on accident by being a bad tinkerer, or on purpose by being a clever prankster. If someone wants to believe the latter, what bias are you accusing them of?
A bias against evidence based conclusions. Believing it was a prank without any proof other than some vague background on the father.
You mean like assuming Slacker has negative feelings towards Ahmed without any evidence for it?
Well, except for all his posts in this thread and his 80% certainty based on no articulable evidence that Ahmed is being deceitful. Setting that aside, you have a great point.
I can see why you would want to make this about Slacker instead of Ahmed. It’s really not going well for you, is it?
Sorry, I stepped out of line. Let me try again.
Slacker, you’re an ignorant racist dumbfuck turd.
There, carry on with the circle jerk guys.
Good afternoon Muffin. How are you on this fine day? How’s life in the meadow?
Was there a bomb in the briefcase? No.
Was there an unsafe and hazardous device in the briefcase? Yes.
Was Ahmed “the clock inventor” told to keep the timing device in the briefcase? Yes.
Did Ahmed ignore that instruction and plug the timing device into a 120vac outlet in another classroom? Yes.
The school staff’s job is to keep ALL of the students safe. Ignoring the stupid actions of one kid doesn’t make ALL of the other students safe. If you see something, say something. The teacher and principle saw something and they said something. For the safety of ALL the other children.
As far as I can tell, you are the only one in America, including the school authorities and police, who think this is significant.
The school staff’s job is to keep ALL of the students safe. Choosing to ignore the unsafe actions of one stupid kid does not keep ALL of the other students safe.
Unless it’s a minority and it only looks dangerous, then don’t say anything. Best to err on the side of caution and never risk offending anyone.
If I haven’t previously said so explicitly, I feel it’s entirely appropriate for the teacher to have confiscated the device (as unapproved electronic equipment) and to forward his or her concerns up the management chain (“I don’t know what this thing is, the kid says it’s a clock.”). I feel it was inappropriate for all the adults involved to jump to the conclusion that Ahmed intended it to look like a bomb. Note that all of them knew that it wasn’t actually a bomb, and the police said the only concern was that it was intended to cause a bomb scare.
Heh. Well done.
Uh, no. Not unless you have an irrational fear of clocks or electricity.
It seems that Ahmed “the clock inventor” Mohamed has many admirers since Obama made him famous. It pays to have friends in high places.

Texas boy arrested for making a clock meets Sudan’s president, an accused war criminal -
According to the Sudan Tribune, Ahmed met with Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir in Khartoum on Wednesday evening. The Paris-based Web site reports that the teenager told reporters that he was “extremely delighted” to meet Bashir and hoped to return to visit the Sudanese president again “with a new invention and success.”
However, Bashir is no ordinary world leader. He has an outstanding arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court, for example, for allegedly orchestrating genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in Darfur. The country he leads is under a variety of U.S. sanctions. His government harbored Osama bin Laden for five years in the 1990s. A leaked U.S. diplomatic cable published by WikiLeaks even suggested he may have secretly stolen $9 billion in oil money.
My God… that’s the second-worst President he’s ever met!
Hmm, Davutoglu is Prime Minister… oh, you mean Sergey Brin? Not sure what his title is.
Doorhinge, you do realize, of course, that the he took his clock-bomb to the meeting with Bashir to blow up Bashir, only because it was never a clock-bomb in the first place, the assassination attempt failed.
