You either lost the thread, or you are somehow unaware that a subject can be more complicated than a binary choice about one facet of it. I brought up the characterization of his being an “innovator” who “made a digital clock” as evidence for the Washington Post committing journalistic malpractice. This has nothing to do with the question of whether or not he should be arrested (to which I answer that he should not be, FTR).
Gosh, it’s interesting that all the myriad things you find interesting about this ‘complicated subject’ are things that, to those eager to justify the foolish and bigoted reactions by authorities, would tend to denigrate Ahmed Mohammed and/or his father.
By which I mean, that’s not interesting at all and has become an entirely predictably aspect of your posts in this thread.
Let me be even clearer: you’re in league with the racist fucks who wish harm on the boy because of his race and/or religion. If you’re uncomfortable with that, good; get a fucking clue. If you’re not uncomfortable with that, stop the fucking weak objections. Jump on in and splash in the slime; you’re providing a nice canopy for the swimmers already in there.
And there it is.
You either fully support this kid in the name of diversity no matter what he does or you’re a racist bigot.
There is no middle ground with this crowd lmao…
Says the slime swimmer.
Why wouldn’t everyone “fully support this kid”? He seems like a nice kid who likes electronics. I wish he’d stayed, and I hope he comes back – curious kids interested in technology usually make great American adults.
Your objection is correct in general terms. But you hardly occupy that middle ground that I’m fighting for. You really are acting like a bigoted asshole, and I certainly don’t wish to provide a “canopy” or anything else for you. (Yes, I know I said I don’t keep track of who people are, but for now I seem to be making an exception for you.)
Is it your belief that it constitutes good journalistic practice to write a story that is kindasorta technically accurate, if you really stretch things and turn your head sideways and squint?
I do believe what I’m saying. But that doesn’t mean I’m delighted they are leaving the country. I just find it…interesting, the timing especially.
I’m not sure they are running away to avoid answering questions, but I’m more than 90% sure.
I’m not sure they did this all for money, in fact I very much doubt it. I think it was much more to prove a point and get a few minutes of Internet fame (Ahmed’s own words to his teacher were something like “I told you I’d be famous on the Internet someday”) and that it blew up way bigger than they ever expected.
You are right that I initially did not clock the dad on my radar at all and then he started pinging it bigtime. But sure, it’s within the realm of possibility that it’s just a huge coincidence that the dad giving pizzas and refreshments to the media on his lawn is the same guy who was present for the infamous flag burning in Florida, a guy who has also gotten involved in other controversies in Texas, appearing on the local news and even going so far as suing various governments all the way up to DC. Can we agree that this is a *helluva *coincidence at least?
And I definitely don’t agree that it’s a form of terrorism. More like a kind of performance art, or muckraking provocation. Both of which can be really cool. Rock on, Muhammed! I just want it to be crystal clear that I’m not taking it at face value, that I’m not a pawn of the performance but am wise to the scam.
Obviously I don’t agree that I’m saying “horrible things”. But neither do I think I “have the moral high ground” (except relative to canned mayhem, a low bar indeed). I just don’t accept that you (plural) occupy a moral high ground, surveying me down in the muck from your lofty perch.
I do however honestly give you (plural) credit for having your hearts in the right place. Even in unloading a torrent of vitriolic abuse at me! (I’m kinda Jesus-y like that. ) There are a number of issues regarding which I go “off the reservation” compared to my fellow progressives: affirmative action, affirmative consent, abortion, religion, and nature vs. nurture, among others. In almost every case, I see the “on the reservation” crowd as coming from a laudable desire to be kind, open, and tolerant, as well as quite understandably wanting to push back against, and even make up for, a long period of white male patriarchal hegemony.
I just can’t roll that way. It’s not in me. You may well think that just makes me a bad person. But then why don’t I embrace the FOX News worldview? That would be a lot easier, and make me a lot more friends. But I can’t do that, because I don’t see the world that way either. I have a specific angle on things that is relatively uncommon but not totally unheard of, which is why I appreciate people like Harris and Maher so much (despite the fact that, as I said, I don’t line up with them on every point–albeit with Harris, it is very, very close).
You gotta pay the troll toll
To get into this boy’s hole
You gotta pay the troll toll to get in.
SlackerInc, you think, based on no evidence whatsoever, that Ahmed did intend for it to be a hoax bomb. You think he worked this up with his dad to get attention.
That is not a special or unique position, and it certainly isn’t Jesus like. A thousand racist assholes were all over the internet saying the same thing. There were a couple other ones right here in this thread.
So, you’re not just a racist shitbag, you’re a grandiose racist shitbag.
How am I a bigot?
Because I called this a scam from the beginning and the perp happened to be brown? News flash broski, he would’ve been a piece of shit in my eyes no matter what color he was.
The bogus gofundme scams make me sick to my stomach. The waitress who falsely accused the dude of racism to the lesbian waitress and her false bullshit. People are starving in this world, these people scam others out of hundreds of thousands and yet the supposed bleeding hearts see nothing wrong with it??
Fuck that, Fuck them and Fuck you too if you buy into that bullshit.
It’s becoming sad when people are vilified and taxed to death for working their asses off in this country yet scammers and lazy fucks are applauded for getting a free ride.
What’s “Jesus like” (said with a wink, please notice) is that people like you call me “shitbag” and far worse, and I still give you credit for having warmhearted good intentions.
Nooo…that’s what I’m doing. What I *didn’t *do is say that I hope he gets killed by a drone attack. Nor did I whine that white American Christians are the true victims. I suppose you believe there’s a “war on Christmas” too.
As of about 12 pages ago, I wasn’t getting a racist vibe from SlackerInc. What I was getting was superficial conclusions drawn from empathy: he imagines himself in Ahmed’s shoes, then imagines that Ahmed was just like him. Unfortunately SlackerInc was a bit of a troll and wise guy in high school, so he figured Ahmed was pulling a stunt.
Then again, I did the same thing in the early days, figuring that Ahmed made a shitty electronics project to show to his teacher. (The shitty electronics project was something I could have done at his age, not coincidentally.) As of now I don’t care too much what the kids original motivations were: given the verifiable facts putting the kid in cuffs was rather ridiculous.
Canned mayhem is a whole other container of nuts. Lots of strawmen, born of wishful thinking: he flatters himself with comparisons to liberals who exist only in his earnest imagination.
My comment was tongue in cheek. I don’t wish death on anyone who doesn’t deserve it. If however he starts “inventing” bombs then I’ll be more than happy to watch the liveleak footage of his ass turning into a fine mist.
Oh and I’m definitely not a Christian nor do I give a flying shit about the supposed war on Christmas. My comment was for the people who will gladly slam a Christian for turning down a gay marriage certificate and yet totally applaud a Muslim who chants ‘death to America’ while stoning a homosexual to death.
One of these religions is not like the other religion, bub…
*Just my imagination…
Running away with me.
Oh it’s just my imagina-a-ation.
Running away. With me. *
“However, Bashir is no ordinary world leader. He has an outstanding arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court, for example, for allegedly orchestrating genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in Darfur. The country he leads is under a variety of U.S. sanctions. His government harbored Osama bin Laden for five years in the 1990s. A leaked U.S. diplomatic cable published by WikiLeaks even suggested he may have secretly stolen $9 billion in oil money.”
This kid had a meet and greet with a known war criminal after the stunt he pulled in Texas and barely a single eyebrow was raised here.
And I’m the asshole for calling his bullshit out weeks ago???
k
To my knowledge Bashir doesn’t do too much chanting, nor was he applauded here. Now he is a genocidal maniac. He’s also the head of state at the country of Ahmed’s father.
Interestingly, Ahmed’s Dad was part of the opposition.
Have patience with canned mayhem, gang. He’s trying. Sure he’s making an effort at trolling, but everyone needs a hobby.
2nd chorus!
Just my 'magination, once again.
Running away with me.
Oh, tell you it was just my 'magination,
Running away with me.
Thank you, I actually did not know that part…
Oh man, check the guy’s wiki page then: “Mohamed Al Hassan (aka Mohamed Elhasan Mohamed) (born 1961) is a Sudanese immigrant to the United States and entrepreneur.[1][2] He has also twice campaigned to become the President of Sudan (in 2010 and 2015).”
When not running for President, he drives a cab. Ok, ok, that was years ago.
Sudan election: Bloomberg - Are you a robot?
“I think there is about zero percent chance for anyone running for president” against al-Bashir, said Harry Verhoeven, a professor of government at Georgetown University in Washington and a specialist on the Horn of Africa region.
…
Mohammed al-Hassan, a businessman who represents the National Reform Party, has the most ambitious agenda of al-Bashir’s competitors. A dual U.S.-Sudanese national, he’s pledged that within 100 days of being elected he’ll negotiate the lifting of sanctions the U.S. imposed in the late 1990s because of alleged sponsorship of terrorism.
‘New Faces’
“Al-Bashir has been practicing all forms of oppression and repression and that’s why people can’t imagine a new president but him,” al-Hassan said in a phone interview from Khartoum. “I see a very big chance to change the current regime as people want new faces.”
The Dad seems to have his hands in a number of pots, including the local Islamic Sufi Center. Sufis are the mystics of Islam: they often emphasize the Greater Jihad over the Lesser Jihad, the greater one being the internal spiritual struggle as opposed to blowing shit up.
I don’t claim to know much about Sudan’s politics, but if this Bashir guy is such a genocidal maniac, and Ahmed’s dad is clearly aware of that fact and has criticized Bashir for it, what is he doing letting his son anywhere near him? It’s just strange.
BTW, Hentor, I see there was another part of your attack (besides the “Jesus-y” business) that I did not address and I want to do so now.
I honestly don’t know if you’re genuinely this obtuse, or are just disingenuously strawmanning me. I said upthread that “I have a specific angle on things that is relatively uncommon but not totally unheard of”, which you are mockingly characterizing as my saying “I’m speciall”. But OK: let’s go with that as a paraphrase-- I can live with it. Do you really think I was saying that I’m special (which is to say, unusual) because I suspected this about Ahmed and his dad, and that’s the extent of it? Let me ask you this: how many of those thousand racist assholes are lifelong Democrats who strongly supported Barack Obama and continue to do so? Mightn’t that combination be a little bit unusual (“special”)? If there are others, other than the famous people I already mentioned upthread, please point them out.
His rationale is not particularly the problem. It’s his zeal, his dedication to getting this kid that suggests he’s got some other problem.
You say, “yeah, I was like that. The kid could have faked this.” SlackerInc needs this to be true, feels more convinced by the support of racists, and equates himself with Jesus for his zeal.
