Road rage because of a bumper sticker!?!?

Okay.

I take my politics seriously. I understand other people do, too.

But, how does one get so mad as to do this? How do you even justify it in your mind at the time? He had the sign made up ahead of time, apparantly so he had to have some kind of plan to use it. It just…

:frowning:

I wonder what his username is?

Both sides do not behave equally when it comes to idiocy like this.

Here we recently had a cop threaten to arrest a woman unless she took her “Fuck Bush” bumper sticker off her truck. He had to apologize the next day.

Hold on, there are a lot of people on this board who are a bit… enthusiastic, shall we say, about their positions - including myself. But I don’t think Lib, or Brutus, or Reeder, to name a few of the more determined politically minded posters we have, would ever condone this kind of reaction, let alone indulge in it themselves.

I know you’re making a funny, and it is funny, but let’s not get away from the difference between aggressive rhetoric and aggressive behavior.

And Evil One, this isn’t about the political view of the person involved. I don’t care about that. Frankly, keying cars with Kerry/Edwards stickers is just as out-of-line, even if not as dangerous. I do not want this to devolve into a them/us argument. It’s more important than that.

If you cannot accept that other people will disagree with you, what the Hell are you doing in a democracy?

Yes, judging by this story, the liberals are far, far worse than the conservatives. Say, now that I think about it… has anybody seen Dio since this story broke? :stuck_out_tongue:

My favorite part:

Yes, flipping people the bird is an important part of the scientific method.

I used to have a bumpersticker that said, “If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will shoot their kids accidentally.” One time in Chapel Hill I saw the leader of the local skinhead gang (whom I knew all too well) behind me in traffic, looking like he was about to pop, he was so mad. He tailgated me for about half a mile, and then at a stoplight swerved around me, flipping me off as he drove past.

Given that I had a friend who couldn’t go downtown any more due to threats from this asshole, I was pretty unnerved by the experience. So no, this isn’t just limited to one side of the political spectrum.

Of course not, such behavior is ridiculous. I felt bad for the repubs (the joe & jane blow ones visiting from Iowa) when they had the convention here months back. The amount of shit these poor people were getting was embarrasing. They looked like they had the fear of death in them, probably because they did.

Why do people have to go and do this sort of shit? This guy’s obviously a fucking moron. I mean, i live in a solidly Democratic city, and if i tried to abuse everyone i see with a Bush/Cheney sticker, i’d never have time to do anything else.

And i really don’t know what he thought he was going to accomplish. I mean, he had a couple of options. He could try to reason with the woman and explain why her support for Bush was misguided, but we all already know that Bush voters don’t respond to reason. Or he could try to beat her around the head with the sign, but her skull was probably too thick for any damage to occur anyway.

But seriously, violence and intimidation are never the answer, and i hope this guy gets what’s coming to him.

Actually, you might be right. Although i think the playing field might be somewhat uneven.

Conservatives don’t need to go out an intimidate liberals and leftists, because under the Bush administration they’ve got the FBI, the Secret Service, and the cops doing it for them.

You are a fucking idiot.

We can dig up tons of stories about asshats on both sides.

If you say so. I have a friend in Georgia who had the Kerry/Edwards stickers ripped off his car last fall. I’d bet good money (which I don’t have) the asses and wackos are distributed evenly across the political spectrum.

You have been fucking whooshed.

Turn your humor-o-meter back on and go re-read Weirddave’s entire post, not just the part you quoted.

Your right, my utmost apologies to Dave.

I havent slept in about 40 hours, forgive me.

Fuck

You’re

World Eater, Why have you been up so long, and will you be able to sleep soon? I hope it’s not insomnia.

Hang in there.

Personally I have no idea why people feel compelled to paste pieces of paper on their bumber stickers in the first place. I know intellectually that they do so to express their “individuality,” but it still boggles my mind on an emotional level.

Personally, i’ve never put a piece of paper on my bumber sticker.

I know what you mean, though.

Well since we only have the woman’s side of the story here I’ll hold off judgement.

The sign could have been made while driving and the whole thing could have started by something this woman did.
Any Republicans want to reimburse for the expenses I had after my care with the Clinton Gore sticker got keyed up?

I’ve never thought of bumper stickers as expressing individuality. My sense of humor, perhaps. My hobbies, occiasionally. But never my individuality.

What I don’t get is why anyone would keep on a political bumper sticker past the election. I can see, if you’re really excited for a particular candidate having the bumper sticker (Not that any presidential candidate has ever excited me that much.) but once the election is over, off it comes.

Of course, that’s another topic altogether.

Doh, sorry, I got up to check the food I was cooking, sat down and completed my sentence that didn’t need completion.

Bumper for those that didn’t know what I was talking about. Not bumper sticker. :smack:
