brianjedi, I agree that those kinds of cereal are better (for the reasons you cited), but harder to find. I know I’ve seen them at Sam’s Club, but don’t know if the WierdNorth household has a membership. I don’t recall having ever seen them in a regular grocery store.
You can find the quick cup’o oatmeal at most grocery stores though, which are really good.
When we do short road trips (> 5 hours) we bring GORP (ours has peanuts, cashews, M&Ms, red licorice bits, raisins, and pretzel bits), munchie cereal (such as Golden Grahams, Cheerios, Corn Pops) in baggies, granola bars, and cheese sticks.
The munchie cereal always goes first.
We always take gingersnaps on camping and canoeing trips. They are relatively non-crumbly relative to other cookies and also seem to help settle upset tummies (perhpas it’s the ginger?). Besides, they seem appropriate for GingerOfTheNorth to take along.
Oh believe me… nobody wants to see Ginger snap!
