Road Trip!

Lemme tell you about how it was when I was growing up. Every summer, dad would take a couple of weeks off from work, we’d hook the camper up to the TravelAll, and we’d see the country. Weeks on end in the car, going all over creation. And as a small child, I found the whole process pretty annoying. After all, all my friends and toys were back at home!

Now, it’s time to pass on the tradition.

The Littlest Briston is getting to be of traveling age, and my wife is coming more and more to grips with her fear of long car rides. So, with the alarm set to go off in under five hours, tomorrow brings up the First Annual Briston Family Road Trip! Pittsburgh, Peru (IN) and Minneapolis, look out, we’re heading your way – woohoo!

Awesome!

Despite my frequent car sickness, I have nothing but fond memories of the summer trips (usually camping, but always involving long 6+ hour drives) . I remember feeling like you did too - who wants to be cramped up in the car with my annoying younger brother and obnoxious sisters for hours on end! But the actual adventures, and sights and all-round family fun were always worth it in the end. My fondest childhood memories. Now get some sleep!

We got a little sleep – about four hours, broken up. But, we made it to Pittsburgh! Now for a couple days of relaxing and hanging with friends…

Couple days in Pittsburgh, a day in Indiana, and we finally made it to Minnesota on Wednesday afternoon. Helluva good time so far, with two exceptions: the height restrictions at the amusement park in Mall of America (hint: if you’re going to theme your park after a little kid’s TV channel, then don’t put ridiculous height requirements on your rides), and the construction/traffic around Chicago. For the ride home, We’re rerouting ourselves to add at least 100 miles to the trip, but we expect to save an hour or two by doing so.

Tonight, it’s off to the rodeo!
