Okay, so it’s not exactly a burning philosophical question, but…
As a kid, I had a taped copy of a Robin Hood film that I’ve never been able to locate again. It may have been a TV movie, but was not ‘Robin of Sherwood’ (since there was no sorcery/magic element). Here’s a little of what I remember:
In the beginning, Robin and two other (brothers?) attend a deathbed reading of a will (which I think deeds everything to Robin). Afterwards, I think one of them kills the other and then duels with Robin duels who eventually leaves/flees.
At some point, Robin (or one of his men) is a prisoner and hung by the feet in a castle hall.
At some point, Robin and/or others have to rescue prisoners by swimming in the moat through a grate or something similar.
I think Robin saves a young boy’s life after his father is killed for poaching. Later, with the merry men when they’re trying to decide what to call Robin, that boy pulls Robin’s hood over his head and says “Robin Hood”
They blindfold Robin at some point and release a bird which he hits with an arrow.
All of the above are ‘fuzzy’ memories, but hopefully accurate. I would guess that it was originally taped from TV/cable sometime between 1975 and 1987 (in the US).
Anyone who can name that flick will earn my eternal gratitude!!
You haven’t given me enough information to identify the movie from what I see in the Internet Movie Database. Try the following: Go to the IMDb search page (us.imdb.com/search) and put “Robin Hood” in for character name. You will get 54 possibilities when you do a search. 11 of them are too recent to be the movie you’re talking about. 6 of them are silent, which I presume from your description would not be correct. Many of the others are not what you want because they are comedy versions of the story, or are not Robin Hood movies at all but other things in which a character happens to be named Robin Hood, or are animated versions, or have stories that will obviously not fit your description. Try to narrow it down further by remembering what decade your film seemed to come from - the '30’s, the '40’s, the '50’s, the '60’s, the '70’s, or the 80’s. You should be able to narrow it down to a small set fairly quickly. Come back and post again when you’ve got it narrowed down.
Well the TV mini-series “Ivanhoe” seemed to have some of the Robin Hood legend in it, but probably not that much. It was the right time period though, mid- 80’s.

This part seems familiar. But from the Flynn “Adventures of Robin Hood”(1938,color) or the 50’s 60’s(?) TV series. They pieced some of those together and made movies for Tv in the late 60’s early 70’s. And the episodic description of the plot would make sense then. Is it that old? Who was in it? I’ve found a dozen or so Movies in my BOOKS but no plot synopsis that matches. I used to watch that TV show all the time. Still remember the theme.“RobinHood, RobinHood, hiding in the grass; Little John, Little John, shot him in the; HAIL TO THE BRAVE;HAIL TO THE GOOD; RobinHood,RobinHood,RobinHood.” Well, that’s the way we sang it.There were verses about Marian , but I was too young too understand them,so I forgot them.

Success at last! Somebody on the Robin Hood MB identified it as a 1967 UK production called “A Challenge for Robin Hood”. Even better, Amazon had it in stock, so it looks like I’ll get to see it again this week.
