Is this the first step of a larger pattern or just a weird experiment? Will these become more prevalent in prisons and such?
As the article states, this is only a 90-day pilot program to see if they are effective. I don’t see it happening in lots of other prisons, so it’s not necessarily the wave of the future. While they will no doubt provide safety for prison officers, IMO I don’t see them replacing humans anytime soon.
Daleks.
I can just see it in the next Dr. Who special. IN-CAR-CER-ATE! IN-CAR-CER-ATE!![]()
I’m not sure I understand what these things do. The company says “What we have created with Sentry is a highly advanced system − and force multiplier − for correctional facility officers”, but the description of the robot says it’s equiped with “360-degree cameras, Night vision, Lights, and Heat detection”. Are these just big mobile cameras, or can they actually do anything? Maybe getting past the First Law is a problem.
The First Law is only a problem if you program it in.
I think they serve as mobile cameras. If they see a guy moving away, they can follow him and scream, “INCARCERATE! INCARCERATE!”
