Rock Band 2

Around our Xbox, we find one of the most tiring songs is the DLC Paramore song “Crushcrushcrush”. It’s not really in a difficult key or require an extreme vocal range, but as the title hints, there just isn’t any time to breathe in - I believe there are actually two different recordings of the singer spliced together for the extensive chorus. At least that’s what it sounds to me. That or she’s got a couple more lungs than the norm. Or has mastered Jack Black’s inwards singing.
When you’re done, you feel like you’ve just run a mile :).

Seems complicated on the PS3. GG&HT isn’t so bad to sing, just a little annoying since it’s so long. I’m not a big speedmetal fan, but I really like radio-friendly metal and it’s too bad that the three songs excluded from RB2 transfer are some of my favorites.

You don’t usually have to hit the whole bar perfectly to get an “Awesome” while singing. If I take a big, quick breath right at the beginning even if I miss the first word you can still get ranked 100%, even if it feels like cheating.
The ones that really throw me though are the overlapping choruses like Supreme Girl and Kids in America where the game track is interrupted mid sentence but the actual music completes the sentence. KnowwaddImean?
I decided to take it up to the next level and started playing the bass tracks while singing (since I always have a dedicated drummer and guitarist around). What makes me sad though is when I suggest, “Dudes, we should start a band for real” and they laugh and say “Yeah right. Hey, let’s play some Rock Band.”

(Also, I inward sing for the beginning of Gimme Shelter. It works like a charm even though I sound like I’m dying. Which is funny since I can’t make it work for the beginning of Master Exploder. JB has some chops.)

Oo, thanks for the info. I only want to exclude one song for now, so that’s fine.

Apparently I kick butt at singing grunge songs. I got 100% on 4 out of 5 songs on a grunge set (should’ve bumped that one up to Hard), and having only sung “Alive” before, hit #912 first try on their “Flannel Challenge” or whatever they’re calling it - it had “Alive”, “Black Hole Sun”, and some song by Nirvana that I don’t remember the title of.

It’s so weird the sense of accomplishment I get out of being able to do little things in this game.

Six months ago I borrowed Guitar Hero from my friend and Ace of Spades on Hard kicked my ass and couldn’t finish it. I unlocked Ace of Spades '08 finally a few nights ago, and breezed through it on Hard with absolutely no difficulty whatsoever. I felt like a champ.

Then later I played Almost Easy (having never heard the song before) on Hard and thought “this song is AWESOME” after kicking it out of the park. Then “let’s see how I do on Expert.” Managing to get 90% on Expert on my first try was killer. We’re not going to mention how I tried to do Shackler’s Revenge on Expert and got my ego kicked back down a notch when the solo killed me dead.

Of course then last night I managed to do the entire section of alt-strumming in A Jagged Gorgeous Winter on Expert only missing a couple notes (and actually getting star power from a section, meaning I hit all the notes in a long alt-strumming section! WOO!). And I beat Painkiller on Hard with some strategic overdrive deployments during the solo sections.

Games should not be allowed to be this fun and addicting. Man, I haven’t even started on the drums or mic yet.

I just want to add that I hated singing “I Get By” (Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives, IIRC) - the song title was appropriate. Stupid game sprung that one on me during the Rolling Stone Immortals of Rock concert in Shanghai. Bitch.

I tried the guitar and drums for the hell of it, and my hand-eye coordination apparently sucks worse than I thought. I have trouble timing the strumming on the guitar - during the tutorial, I got the hang of the regular notes but just kept failing out miserably on the power chords for some reason. And should you be using the fret buttons high on the neck or low on them? Is there a difference. I don’t want to talk about the drums hangs head. It’s worth noting that my only musical training is in the voice, and playing French horn; I’ve never even touched a drum set, literally.

You can use either set of buttons, my sis with small fingers likes the small buttons. On a real guitar the small fret buttons are higher pitched notes, like a solo. From what I understand, during a guitar solo section you don’t even need to strum if you use the small buttons.

Anyone know of any videos that show a song on Easy difficulty (preferably guitar)? I’m trying to show a friend who’s coming over Saturday to try out RB for the first time the various difficulties of the songs, but all the videos I’ve found were either Expert or Hard.

So Rock Band has announced that music from the venerable Snoop Dogg will be coming to the game sometime down the line [cite]. I’ve perused the 90-something pages of ranting in favor of and against this decision by Harmonix to truly branch out into the rap genre, but I wanted to see what a community I respect a bit more has to say.

I love and grew up on rap, so my opinion is not without bias, but I think it’s pretty simple to say that if you don’t like rap, you don’t have to download the music. Harmonix has released plenty of music that I’m not interested in, but it certainly doesn’t make me angry. It just means I get to wait until the next week. I don’t understand how people can actually be mad because rap will be in the game.

Are any of you up in arms about rap (beyond the Beastie Boys) being introduced to Rock Band?

Nope. Doesn’t bug me at all. Besides, it’ll be easy to 5-star when singing those songs.

I think it could be interesting, especially if they have an actual band along with Snoop’s vocals. There seem to be more live bands in hip hop performances lately.

People put up with country, and some even grew to like it. I shouldn’t throw stones at rap.

I love rap and love rockband, and I really hope they do it well (Which I have every belief they can…I hate country but love playing the country songs). I am having trouble figuring out how they’ll work it, as rap songs aren’t known for their guitar virtuosity (my RB weapon of choice). I hope they do it better than “Smokin’” by Boston, where you play a damn organ solo on the guitar. I hate that song (but the rest of the Boston pack are some of the most fun of the game).

Also, just an aside…after many months and attempts, I FINALLY finished Green Grass and High Tides on expert guitar! That song has been taunting me since the release of RB1.

I’m not going to get it but I have no complaints. In fact I think they need to branch out a lot more: country, some jazz, and anything else. That’s a concept that I know completely freaks out their obsessive user base but they’ve got the basic system so why not absorb all genres.

And when is someone going to come out with Violin Hero?
