Is it possible to play Rockband 1 songs on it, like you can with the Xbox and all? Or would I have to put in the old disc and play RB1, and then put in the other disc and play RB2? Same Q for the “expansion” disc that they had made for Rockband 1 on the Wii… Man, I wish they’d let us d/l songs on that system. =(
I felt the need to share this because I thought it was hilarious; I apologize in advance (especially if you know me in person).
So my wife and I are finishing out a rocking set. We’ve crested 7.5 million fans, and we’re looking to close it out with something fun on expert that we can handle (she sings, I drum). I decide on a 2 song set of Bon Jovi: Livin’ On A Prayer followed by Wanted Dead Or Alive. My wife looks up as she sees what songs are coming up, and the following conversation took place:
Her: Of COURSE you close out with Bon Jovi.
Me: Well, I feel like we’ve sort of abandoned them!
Her: We have not!
Me: Oh, yes we have! We used to close out with “Wanted Dead Or Alive” every time until we fell in love with Boston. We’ve totally abandoned them.
Her: Nooooo…we’re keeping it special.
Me: <laughs>
Her: It’s like anal: if we did it every day, it wouldn’t be special anymore.
To our credit, despite laughing our way through half of the song, we actually gold-starred Wanted Dead Or Alive.
Do you default your index finger to the red or the green? If it’s on the green, scoot your hand down and retrain yourself to play that way. It’s a lot easier to stretch your index finger over one button than it is to stretch your pinky finger down one. Start the retraining by playing Medium with your first three fingers only (on the red, yellow, blue).
That’s how I made the switch, and I can play almost every song on Hard, and I’ve even started a few easier songs on Expert. The retraining was a bit of a bitch, but now it’s second nature.
Thanks for the advice. But I was talking about the drums. =)
If I ever care to pick up the guitar again, I’ll remember those tips. Makes a lot of sense, because I know that playing a real guitar, I prefer to rely on my pinky as little as possible. I don’t know why I’ve always expected it to do the heavy lifting in Guitar Hero.
Ah, can’t help you there. I can do a few easier songs on Hard, but I’m still mostly just trying to figure out Medium.
Does GH:WT have a drum beats trainer?
Correct. You would need at least one instrument, but if you want to try out all parts of the game, you’d need one drum kit, one guitar, and one microphone.
(Also, you’re getting to be as bad as me, playing several games at once. Did you ever get into LOTRO?)
Crimeny…I just played Judas Priest’s Pain Killer for the first time. Not even on Expert, but on Hard. I will shoot myself before I play that song again. My knee actually started aching halfway through the song. Can someone with some drum skills tell me how to do that without making it an impact aerobic exercise? I got a 95%, but the relentless, rapid double-bass hits made it an extremely painful process.
Ya know, it sucks that Paranoid and Enter Sandman didn’t make the transition to Rock Band 2. Sandman was a bitch to play, but was fun to sing. Paranoid was fun all around.
Yeah, I’ve got the Ion and the pedal really isn’t great. I got an actual chain driven beater electronic pedal before I realized that the electrical stuff wouldn’t work right, and I’ve been too lazy to try to mod it with my original RB1 electronics on the new pedal. If I had the chance to start over again I’d probably get a rock pedal instead.
I actually have the RB1 pedal with the carbon fiber adhesive add-on that someone distributed way back when. It works pretty well, although I am planning to buy the ION kit when it comes out for the PS3. We’ll see how that goes.
I have a diamond plate pedal cover that screws onto the RB1 pedal, I’ve never bothered putting it on. Maybe that will make it a little more hefty, assuming the spring can handle it.
Damn you people. I’ve only regarded these games with idle curiosity before, but now I want this game. I even suspect the only thing I might be good at is the vocals.
We have a Wii (though hubby has a hardcore console gaming urge going on and also wants a PS3 now; we’ve been PS1/PS2 gamers before getting the Wii), and from what I can tell on Amazon, it looks like the best way to get this would be to buy the Rock Band Special Edition to get the guitar, drums, and mic (plus the RB1 songs/game), then buy RB2 on 12/22 when it’s released for the Wii?
Rock Band is really better for the PS3, the Wii won’t let you download songs or create custom characters. Your plan is pretty good though, buy RB1 Special Edition and then buy the RB2 game disc. Or vice versa.
If/when you buy a PS3, if you want PS2 games to work on it you have to get one of the original PS3s, which are getting harder to find. The not-as-old ones just support PS2 games through software emulation. The newest PS3s don’t support PS2 games at all. Bonehead move IMO. More info on PS3 versions: PlayStation 3 - Wikipedia
Back to Rock Band, what’s up with the Nirvana DLC? First they don’t give everyone the track they really want (Smells Like Teen Spirit) in either RB1 or RB2, then the DLC comes out with:
* Breed
* Lounge Act
* On a Plain
* Polly
* Something in the Way
* Stay Away
* Territorial Pissings
Where’s Smells Like Teen Spirit? For that matter, where’s Come As You Are? And for god’s sake, where’s Lithium???
Something in the Way? Polly? Very slow songs with little/no drums/bass at all. WTF?
