I wouldn’t call myself a “fan” so much as a “rubbernecker at the car wreck.” G.G. is the apogee of a trajectory that rock has been on since the Big E: the Shocking Action to Provoke Controversy. Elvis swiveled his hips so you could see his Big Johnson working it beneath his trousers (Ed Sullivan was reported to have believed Elvis used some kind of prosthetic). Jim Morrison pulled it out onstage and talked about fucking his mother. G. G. took it as far as humanly possible, except he didn’t kill himself onstage. And to me G. G. just proves how bankrupt that little gag has become–Brittany/Madonna mouth mash or no. After G. G., give it up. There’s nothing you can do that would be more shocking. These posuers in Florida are rank amateurs. Say what you will about G. G., he was the real deal–a genuine psychotic. But he was not a musician–I’ve had more musical farts.
Several years ago, I was given (as a tip while bartending) a videotape of G. G.'s infamous Memphis show at the Antenna club. The cameraman made it three songs into the set, and I think the cops showed up immediately after he stopped filming. Bosda, the next time you’re in West TN, I hereby formally invite you to the vibro-bunker for cocktails and a viewing of the tape. You’ll never be the same after you’ve seen G. G.

While Vibrotronica got most of it, I’d also add that Allin filled a niche that no longer needs to be filled. That part of the art spectrum has been filled.
Entertainment is often ignorent while still managing to be entertaining.

Wasn’t the suicide going to be onstage? How would a band member be unsure if it happened? “Guitar solo…check. Bass solo…check. Drum solo…check. Pyrotechnics…check. Guy killing himself…uhhh, hey Ted, did a guy kill himself next to you? You don’t know either? Eh, we’ll figure that one out later. Lasers…check”
