I voted for the Smiths… who are listed twice in the poll. I assume by accident, and this isn’t an either or vote for “The Smiths, but Morrissey cancels at the last minute” or “The Smiths, but Johnny Marr doesn’t show up”
I really hope that The Cars get in. Their music was influential for the time. And unlike many other bands they tried to sound correct to their music playing live. Unlike some other bands I have heard where you feel like you are hearing a favorite song murdered before your ears and eyes.
The rest of your list, Typo Negative, agrees with mine. I would add Los Lobos though.
:smack: I meant to put The Spinners for the second one.
I blame the Neocitran.
Interesting to note not a single nominee is in their first year of eligibility. Was 1990 really a bust for freshman bands?
As predicted, Yes got the “Oh shit, Chris Squire died, let’s induct Yes before anyone else dies” sympathy vote. I’d say they’re the closest thing to a lock this year.
I still have the same questions I had last time Deep Purple was nominated: (a) why the hell are they not already in the hall and (b) which of the dozen or so members they’ve had over the years will be inducted. For sure the Machine Head Mark II line-up, but anyone else? Could this make Rod Evans resurface?
Really happy to see Cheap Trick and The Cars finally get nominated. I’d be even happier if either one wins, which I doubt will happen. I’ve long suspected that if The Cars had been a New York based CBGBs band instead of being from Boston, they would have gotten in a decade ago.
Early Chicago is definitely worthy, but I have a hard time mentally filtering out the post-1976 ballad stench.
NWA should ride the success of their recent biopic into the hall to be this years token hip-hop entry.
Since this poll only allows one pick, I went with Deep Purple, since they’re overdue. But I added Cheap Trick, The Cars, and NWA in theofficial fan ballot.
Since I can only vote for one I voted for Deep Purple, but I would also have voted for the Cars, NIN, Cheap Trick, Chicago, and Steve Miller.
The Smiths were so good you named them twice. And you’re right.
That’s nice but Warren Zevon should have been inducted already.
Voted for the Cars because I probably like more of their songs than any of the others, but overall this, for me, is a weak class. And the RRHOF is a sham because they suck at defining rock and roll. N.W.A.? Awesome, groundbreaking, influential group. Not rock and roll.
I don’t care who gets in as long as it isn’t The Smiths. Morrissey is a miserable human and doesn’t need a platform to ‘lecture’ from.
Deep Purple and Yes are both overdue. It would be nice if Chicago and the Cars made it in. The late Joe Cocker isn’t on this year’s ballot, but he’s also way overdue.
It’s hard to believe The Moody Blues were passed over again.
They have always been my favorite band since high school.Surely, something must be done to correct the oversight
Elected last year? Be a good reason for them to not be on the ballot this year.
I dare you to YouTube Alex Lifeson’s acceptance speech.
I double DOG dare you.
I actually like this field and can vote for about half the nominees. I’ll go with Cheap Trick in this one, but close with Los Lobos, Deep Purple, the Cars, and the Smiths. NWA is great, too, but not what I think of when I think “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
I saw Chicago in their prime. If they had stopped after their fourth album they would clearly have been the Greatest American Rock Band of All Time.
So I’ve decided the band actually DID stop at that point and absolutely deserve to be in the RRHOF.
Voted Yes, my favorite group until I discovered a genre I liked better. But which members get inducted? Squire was the only one always in the group. Anderson wasn’t with them for one album (and I guess the two most recent), and there aren’t any radio hits on it(them), but there are some fan favorites that can get played in concert now that he’s not touring with them anymore. Steve Howe is neither the original guitarist nor the one on their only #1, but he’s clearly the guy most associated with them on guitar. Do they put in the entire “Union” line-up?
We used to say this!
Love it, though it never made any sense.
Yes should be in already. Chic should be in already. Important, influential, huge sellers. They get nominated every year. What’s the hold up?
Chicago was heading in the direction of being a hall of fame band, then gave up and became MOR. They decided to make millions of dollars in place of being cool and who can object to that really? Not you or you or you. None of you are cool enough to object.
I did not see an option in the poll for, “Holy shit, none of them deserve in.”
That would be my vote if the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame had any actual meaning.
Come on. Janet fucking Jackson? Give me a break.
I don’t have a strong feeling, but I voted for Harry Nilsson, based on an NPR story.
Sure, why not. Any actual exhibit should reference all of them. And I’m not aware of any “I despise you and won’t be on the same stage as you” attitudes. They may not all way to tour/record together anymore, but I don’t think they’d have a problem with all showing up for one night.
