Rock Star Inxs 7/11

I agree with what WordMan said. Being a wannabe on TV ain’t Rock N Roll.

Thank you. Having said that, I find myself watching the show - I hope to get a glimpse that one of them has a real rock vibe and, if cut loose in a real live setting, might have what it takes to pull it off. INXS are/were a legitmate rock band with some great songs, that lost their way and met a bizarre tragedy and now this - I am kinda pulling for them that they find somebody. But it’s like tasting crushed grapes and trying to predict if the wine will age well - it’s a completely weird, off setting compared to the real thing.

Watching Will sing I Need You Tonight was awful - besides looking down the entire freaking time, he could not have had less seduction in his presentation - oy.

The other two were fine and he was the right person to let go, but their days are clearly numbered…

I did like the thought of the band making the elimination decision and basing on the singing of one of their songs…

I caught it tonight, finally. I really thought Suzie massacred the song she was given, and while Will was quiet, his performance did remind me a lot of some of Michael’s live concert appearances, so I was kinda pissed that she stayed and he got booted.

I thought Suzie did the best out of the bottom three, but she also had the benefit of being given the song with which you could make the most of in performance. Will was pretty lackluster and had no connection with the audience despite sounding very much like Michael Hutchence. I’d been waiting to hear the contestants sing an actual INXS song, so the method of elimination was alright by me.

For those who missed one ep or another – apparently CBS will be rerunning this week’s shows Saturday night.

Oh, man, how could you not get that Wil dripped sex on “I Need You Tonight”? I liked both him & Dana, but totally agree that INXS has to pick who’s right for them.

(Dana was the woman who got dropped the first night–I think Rob Burnett wanted to give the band an out in case someone was really bad right off the bat, but in hindsight she got shafted. She only got to sing once, & we never heard her do an INXS song.)

Uhhhh, that’s OK. I heard enough of Dear Dana.

Hey, Judith Prietht! You have a cool name!

Anyway, RockStar is being rerun tonight, so anyone who actually (A) likes INXS & (B) doesn’t just turn up their noses at singers based on one performance (like some Philistine snobs I could name) is free to turn in. Haters can go out to a local club & pay to hear a crappier band, stop dogging my show!

I hear Hutchence sing the song - it was on the radio just now, coincidentally - I hear sex. I listened to Will, I heard flat, whispered singing, no sex. YMclearlyV’s.

The problem was that they got onto him for mugging to the camera. It’s hard enough to follow the red light, harder still to avoid it. I felt like he was in a hopeless situation. Sort of, no matter what you do, you’re gone. At any rate, his exit was the classiest I’ve ever seen. The band had to invite him over for back-pats after that, lest they look like total cads.

Apparenty the contenders will also be judged at some point according to their songwriting ability, which honestly surprised me. Seems like INXS really is looking for someone to be an integral part of the group and not just a pretty face to sing Micheal Hutchence’s songs.

This also makes me think that the songwriting part may be what makes or breaks it for the top competitors. Right now we’ve got Ty, Jordis, Neal (who looks and sounds like a Mick Jagger impersonator), Heather, Brandon and maybe one or two others that seem to have a legitimate shot…so if some of them don’t come through with the songwriting…

Well, the show’s given nothing yet to judge their songwriting.

I’d say that as performers, Deanna & Jordis are the most apparent front-runners. Ty is very good, Brandon is maybe holding himself back a little (“Rock & Roll All Night”? in a vocals competition? ). And I think the band like Neal, baby lizard prince of the Jagger chicken walk, more than the viewers might expect. But I’m not counting out J.D. yet. Actually, it’s a good pool overall; in the band’s eyes, even Suzie has a shot–if the viewers will forgive her for her early flub. (Although admittedly, so far, she doesn’t look like a frontrunner in this bunch.)

(I just went to the website, & there’s a flash series of images of singers on the promo for the next show. Only three of the singers: Deanna, Jordis, & J.D. That sort of fits.)

I don’t like what Suzie did in the elimination round last time (and I still maintain she sounded awful that day), but I do think she recovered really well, and sounded really convincing even when she forgot her cues and got the verses the wrong way around in her first song. I think she can really pull it together.

is it just me or is Dave Navarro just a nerd dressed up as a tough guy?
