It must have been drugs then that I’d heard he never touched. Was the alcohol abuse before he hit it big or after?
Nugent, that is.

Well the whole straight edge movement (no drugs, no alcohol, no sex) was started by Fugazi front man Ian MacKay nack when he was in Minor Threat.
Henry Rollins is also another guy who completely avoids the whole drugs/booze thing.
I saw/read/heard somewhere in the past month or so that Roger Daltrey followed the straight and narrow. I don’t know if that was only post-Keith Moon or for his whole career, though.
It’s only wikipedia, but here’s a cite confirming the above:
I heard the same thing some time ago with the addition that he gave the reason as “I have to keep myself pure for the chicks!”
Jon Anderson (of Yes) avoids alcohol and drugs (and is a vegetarian as well). Actually, I think most of Yes (with the notable exception of Rick Wakeman) were the same.
Does Alfred Yankovic count as a rock star?
Same as the groupies thread - I don’t think U2 are big into drugs and alcohol, with the possible exception of Adam Clayton who apparently isn’t as religious as the other guys.
Clayton had to quit or cut back on his drinking around the early 90s, when he became so blotto one night that he couldn’t play one of the shows. The others drink, but not as much as they used to. Little or no drug use that I’m aware of, except that the aforementioned bassist might have done some pot way back when.
