Woohoo!! I actually know the answer to something!!! Why, oh why, didn’t you post this in GQ? 
It’s from “The Big Sleep” with Bogie and Bacall. 
The Big Sleep was originally a novel by Raymond Chandler. The quote is from Ch III of the novel (p 24 of the Penguin edition) when Marlowe meets Mrs Regan for the first time at General Sternwood’s house. This is one of the few times when it is hard to know whether to recommend the book or the film - both are great.
