Roger Ebert celebrates 30 years of sobriety

…he said today in his blog at the Sun Times. (The poor man said he doesn’t drink anything any more due to his sad medical condition.) Well, I never read in the past years that he was an alcoholic, but I’m certainly not surprised. In his movie reviews (Under the Volcano, Withnail & I) he has written so very eloquently about alcoholism that he never needed to tell the world.

I figured he was a drug addict. He wrote the screen play for Russ Meyer’s Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970)

And he gave *Knowing *four stars. Sober my ass.

If there was ever a good reason to drink, seeing that film would be it.
