I didn’t even know that it was out yet, but it called out to me like a damned Siren from the shelf last night at Target.
Anybody else picked up this particular rock of crack yet?
The Coaster Cam kicks my ass, but my favorite new feature is having your park open at night, complete with cool lights and fireworks. I’ve built some cool stuff in the Fright Night scenario (a spooky-themed park open mostly at night), but I can’t get anybody to ride any of it because it won’t quit bloody raining. (They won’t even go in my Mirror Maze, which most definitely has a roof on it.)
All in all, this makes up for my general disappointment with RCT2, which was only minimally distinguishable from the original game.
Are there any sites yet where people are posting successful RCT3 parks? I’d like to see some examples.
I’m impressed with the manual - hello publishers! Nice manuals with ring binders that you can lay flat on your desk are a GOOD thing!
I’ve only built one park so far: the Vanilla Hills starter, but I stayed with it until I reached Tycoon level. The coaster cam is loads of fun, and the day/night cycles are a great addition.
The bugs are annoying. If anyone has not picked the game up yet, I’d almost recommend playing the demo and not buying the retail box until the patch appears (supposedly this week).
The big issues:
–The screen that gives you the summary of the thoughts of your Peeps is not there. From what I can tell, it is supposed to be. It needs to be–it is one of the most useful features.
–The awareness of the Peeps is very lacking. I’ve had cheap, beautiful rides just off the main drag, with hundreds of people walking the length of the ride and right past the entrance, and not only do they not ride it, they don’t even think about it. They will sometimes ride it if you make it cheap enough, but “cheap enough” is well below what you need to charge to make it profitable.
Others have been having major issues with system crashes. There are also dozens and dozens of minor issues that people have found–it makes you wonder if they beta tested the damn game at all.
I agree that it will be a classic, a few patches from now.
