Rolling Stone Best Songs Over 7 Minutes. They miss any?

…I am an avid fan of Townsend.

I have not heard this song.

…I’m gonna have to go look this one up.

“A Change Of Seasons” over Octavarium or Panic Attack? Eh, I’m not gonna judge.

I saw that song in Rock Band and was looking forward to playing it.Then it hit the point where I thought it’d stop… and it just kept going. For what felt like 10 minutes. There’s just nothing interesting going on there. The radio version at 4:40 already feels a little on the long side; the 7:05 version is just bad. Guy, call it quits. This ain’t The End. Or LA Woman. It’s a relatively short, snappy song with not all that many ideas. What’s there is great; don’t drag it to death.

Also, top 50 list of 7±minute songs with no Stairway? Nope. Nope nope nope nope nope.

Did they mention Frank Zappa’s Willie The Pimp and/or Son of Mr Green Genes?

I’m not a fan of the Doors, but the extended two-chord modal jam in the middle of the song kind of seems appropriate to me. Turns it from a normal pop song into something a bit more spacey and psychedlic. Whenever I hear the short version, it just sounds wrong to me. Which is weird, as I never owned the album, so they must have played the long version on classic rock stations here.

The short version was released on a 45, and got top 40 (am radio) airplay. the long version was off the album and would have gotten fm “Underground” radio airplay.

I would have sworn that Steely Dan’s Bodhisattva was more than 7 minutes long, but nope, 5:19 so not even close.

Aja, on the other hand, is just under 8 minutes long.

The entire top 50 could be filled with Dream Theater songs over seven minutes – or Yes, for that matter.

Apparently the article is limited to one song per artist, in which case I agree with their assertion that “When The Levee Breaks” is superior to “Stairway”.
