The Rolling Stones cancelled their Bangkok concert because there was a problem with the group and support team not being to leave India because of aircraft problems.
This seems rather lame.
Anyone have other possible causes?

SARS?
They cancelled their shows in Shanghai and Beijing due to SARS.

True, but SARS was a real concern and that with such a lage public gathering, the problem could rapidly spread.
Bangkok didn’t have that worry yet… Jaggar vacationed with his family there after the cancellation. SARS couldn’t have been a worry.
Too bad I can’t contact them directly and get the scoop!
Hong Kong too.
Thank you green_bladder for your input and the care taken to read the OP.
lol!
word was that the Beijing concert was cancelled owing to poor ticket sales and that SARS was just a convenient excuse.
Boy do I feel stupid Just hang on while I bang my head on a wall for a bit…
I wouldn’t be at all surprised, I wouldn’t think too many people in Beijing would really care about the Rolling Stones.
To pursue the idea of poor ticket sales, would TicketMasters release info on the number of tickets purchased?
True. Hard to find any Rolling Stones albums here. Tickets were also pretty expensive (350~3000 RMB). Heard that it was mainly foreigners who booked tickets.

What would those ticket prices be in US$ and would have some idea about how many were sold prior to cancellation?
SARS wasn’t and so far hasn’t been an issure for public gatherings in Bangkok. I’m trying to find out if the India flight was the problem or that there was a problem with the locals in Bkk not getting the venue setup in time.
I wouldn’t think that the Stones would just go play somewhere if they new that sales would be poor.
These guys have done a least a couple of tours in their lifetime.

roughly US$42 ~ US$360
Don’t know how many tickets were sold already, but I do know they were sold out in Hong Kong.

Good info herwono.
$360 in Beijing? No wonder only foreigners could aford the tickets.
That’s the equivelent of 16,200 Baht here in Bkk. Three months rent. Geeeezzzz.
I’m still going to look deeper into the cancellation of Bkk. They were supposed to play on the 8th april then got pushed back to the 10th and in less than 24 hours, the show cancelled.
Again, thanks for the info. I’m on a mission and I’m going to find the truth (such as it may be!)
