Rolling Stones score first #1 hit in years

All I can say is well done, sirs. The thought that four 70+ year-olds could issue a rock song that shoots to the top of the charts in a music era where with notable exceptions new music ifrom true rock bands is not accepted by the mainstream public, this is a clear indication that popular music still has a lot to learn from the geezers.

In addition, the Rolling Stones recently taught another lesson in what real, non lip-synch, non sampled music can sound like even when all four members of the band aren’t even in the same location:

This is not a "get off my lawn" comment. Imagine that when it comes to the Rolling Stones. . .

OK it kinda is!

But in 2020 where we crown music idols based on television competitions, and the value of celebrity is diluted by social media, its a grand reminder that just like any other profession, more times than not if you don’t embrace the basics and pay your dues, at best you’ll probably be a one hit wonder.

There are still real rock stars in the world!

Cool!

Good song from a great band. The Stone’s longevity is remarkable.

Don’t you think it’s sometimes wise not to grow up. ―Mick Jagger

Agreed.

I’d rather be dead than singing “Satisfaction” when I’m forty-five. ―Mick Jagger

Glad Mick didn’t follow his own advice.

inspires me to create a thread about Neil Young’s recently re-released Shut It Down. Is there a thread about songs about COVID?

I bet they were going for the Guiness Book of Records for oldest recorders of a No 1 chart hit. Then along comes Captain Tom Moore at 100. With a mere cover version.

I like my theory. It means Mick and Keef will be going till they are 100 just to bag the record.

Great song, and this is not long after Bob Dylan had his first hit single in decades.
