Jade Empire I’ve done most of the romance options in that game they are
As a Male: Silk Fox, Dawn Star or if you’re a player you can get Silk Fox AND Dawn Star in a threesome. Interestingly if you go down the Threesome path and pick one or the other at the last moment they both dump you. Or you can have a gay romance with Sky.
As a Female: Sadly fewer choices here. Sky or go gay with Silk Fox.
It annoys me though after all your hard work all you get is a kiss then fade to black but since I enjoyed playing through that game exploring all the different fighting styles it was nice to also try different romance combos.
Darn I tried to edit but was too slow. I wouldn’t worry about the upcoming battle too much. It’s pretty easy and if you poke around you can actually find some more spirit weapons for the other members of your group (be sure to check their quest logs for some amusing jokes especially Black Whirlwind’s) the only one that will give you any problem will be Death’s Hand and he can be stun-locked if you’re cheap. I have some minor tips (ok super cheesy things to try) for that game if you’re interested. I’ll spoiler them if you’re not
Max out the double axe weapon style you got from the pit fights…Why this over all the others? It uses NO focus when you have it maxed meaning you can run the majority of the game doing massive damage with two axes. Can’t beat that.
Buy the support martial style from the guy you meet with the Black Whirlwind. Max out the speed and duration of it you can stun lock all of bosses in the game using that. Also you can combo it on the regular humans and get easy focus balls.
Max out the Jade Golem change style. With it you’ll be an engine of destruction and can roll over the emperor. Not only is it super powerful but it can only be hurt by weapon styles.
Before you sleep with your date (or sleep alone) equip every single gem you have that boosts intuition (you need a lot believe me even buy any that spirit trader in your party has) and you can skip the second Death’s Hand fight which is a big pain on the harder difficulty levels.
The game has quite a few endings. Save before you make the final few choices if you don’t want to play through the whole damn game again to see them all. Even then you won’t get all the various what happened to who cards in the end they change slightly depending on if you corrupted Silk Fox and Sky (both of whom can be influenced towards open palm or closed fist somewhat) and who you romanced
Balder Gate II has some very good romance plots. if your character is male.
You have Jahira, Aire, and for those that are into bad girls the drow chick (who’s name I can’t remember). I have only finishd the Airie one, but went about halfway with the Jahira one. Both were fun.
For females you have Anomem. Don't know how this one goes, but as a male character, I usally tossed him out of the party rather quickly because he anoyed me. Much like Carth (the female romance option) in KOTOR.
Wow, lots of recommendations for NWN… so am I right in assuming there’s only one romantic interest for each sex of player character in the base game? That’d still be cool and all; I just don’t want to hold out for someone better if there’s uh, not.
In other news, I just bought Jade Empire used for 13 dolla! I’m excited. I thought about getting KOTOR, but I saw a friend playing it and I don’t know how into it I’d be. I’m not crazy about futuristic RPGs (unless they’re post-apocalyptic, of course) and I just don’t think laser guns and lightsabers would do it for me. Much more interested in martial arts.
In the meantime I’m totally digging out NWN, and the next thing I look into will probably be Silverfall. The graphics look good enough (older games don’t bother me, especially if they run better on newer machines) and it seems worth checking out.
Einmon, you sure that’s not a romance novel…? :dubious:
FF7 has a couple of romantic subplots, though the plot of the whole game always makes my head hurt. In FF8, there’s quite a bit of romance going on. Many people don’t like FF8, and I believe that it’s because they don’t want the whole squishy falling-in-love bit in a game. As someone else noted, FF10 has a great romance going, though I never finished the game.
In Fallout 2, the PC can have sex with NPCs several times. Sometimes this is a one time thing, and sometimes the PC can have sex multiple times with the same NPC. My best male character has the Sexpert, Gigolo, and Porn Star reputations. The PC can also get married in Fallout 2, though I wouldn’t call it very romantic. The male/male marriage ceremony is the best, I think. I always get my spouses killed off before too long, though, they’re worthless.
Just a quick warning of sorts; Silverfall is actually a fairly new game, just released in the last couple months. It’s pretty resource-intensive with all the options cranked up, so you may want to turn your options down a bit before you start the game up (I’ve an older system, Athlon XP 2600+, 1G RAM, GeForce 6600, running Silverfall at Medium with Reflections and Shadows off, some video lag in one area, otherwise no problem). The graphics actually are pretty good, if you scroll in on objects, but it lacks an FPS perspective. I liken it to NWN and D2 because the gameplay is similar and it has that same sort of linear feel. The major thing that sets it apart is it’s a classless game, so you can create any type of character hybrid you wish.
Actually you don’t need to go to Spear Catches Leaf to get Storm Dragon (the support style you mentioned.) I always closed the dam first. This allows Merchant Cheung in Tien’s Landing to get his shipments, which includes Storm Dragon. If you help the merchant by getting back his figurine, you can get it for a bit cheaper. Merchant Cheung is right next to the exit that leads to the forest. Storm Dragon can be a real help with the pirate lair.
I didn’t know about the double axes thing, though. I might have to try that.
oh wait that should be called the “whore” asperation. if you want a toon whos only goal in life is to sleep around that game is a good one. and there are tons of player mods out to alter the game.
Mmmf. I played a female character in BG2 and found the Anomen romance really rather tacky.
In my game, Anomen became one of my party mainstays after successfully completing his church quest (despite how annoying he was). I had been kind of putting him off on the romance angle, but it got to the point where he was demanding that the main character declare whether she loved him or not. When I said, “No”, he dropped all his gear and left the party! That pissed me off tremendously, because it was too late in the game to pick up a new party member and build them up appropriately. Stupid Anomen.
Lynn, FF8 is one of the few FFs I did play (I actually bought the horrid thing!) and I just found it ridiculous dull. There was just this unprecedented amount of WATCHING… several times in the first few hours I was yelling, “Do I get to PLAY???” So that was the turn-off for me, not the romantic squishiness, which I could totally handle, but I can see how the then-traditionally-teenage-male audience for FF games would have been put off by it.
As for Fallout 2 (ahh! favorite game evar!!!), I loved those aspects of the game, but as you pointed out, there was no real romance. Which was actually fine for that game, because I don’t think it would’ve fit. Still, it was fun, because you do actually have to be attractive and do some persuading.
Madd Maxx, I LOVED the LSL games! They were some of the first to actually acknowledge sex in video games, man. Classic. Of course, I expect far more of games today, but for their time, they were awesome.
Words, thanks; I don’t know what was making me think it was an older game. Still wanna play it though, even more so now that Lute says it takes some work-- I love a challenge
Lute, I thought that Morrowind romance was only an option for males. And if so, boo.
Well, it’s one of those Infocom text based adventures, only where you usually go "LOOK AT ROOM " in this one you go “LOOK AT CAPTAIN’S PECS” … yeah, you got me, I admit, it’s a romance novel disguised as a computer game.
I don’t remember any other games where you actually play through the romance (apart from those mentioned), but if the romance subplot in Prince of Persia counts, I would like an honorary mention to go to the romance depicted in ICO (I love ICO to death, it should be mentioned in every game thread).
I need to check out those mods for BG I - I never finished it and like you, nevermore, I am a stickler for continuity. However, I remember my Paladin (?) getting on my nerves with the “I adore you, m’lady” bits, while I secretly pined for my archer … who sadly wasn’t interested in the least.
