So will Atia finally kill Servilla now that there’s no one left to protect her? How uncharistiaclly nice of Atia to arrange a wedding for Jocasta (even if it was to a freedman). I bet she planned it just to get Anthony to talk about marriage.
“A marriage between our two houses would cement our alliance.”
“I don’t care it all Italy burns to the ground. I’m not going to marry him.”
<snerk> That was the perfect line, and beautifully delivered.
I was wondering how they were going to get the Antony/Octavia marriage done. Sneaky. Octavian is the schemer.
Was doggy-style the norm in Roman times? Seems so, since Octavia knew what “assume the position” meant. We also now know who the dude flirting with Vorenus’s daughter is, and is up to. Nasty piece of work, that.
I think that the reason she did it was to get the girl out of her house and to make her someone else’s problem.
A pretty good episode.
I wonder… are we now done with the Jewish assassin/Herod subplot?
Was anyone else sitting on the couch egging Pullo on to actually BEAT HER TO DEATH LIKE YOUR WIFE TOLD YOU TOO!! Bad, bad Pullo… doesn’t look too good for Eirene.
So who do you think is actually going to:
get the abortion potion that Gaia bought? It would just be too neat for Eirene to drink it, there’s going to be some sort of mistake I think
Anal sex is an effective form of birth control (event the Romans knew that). Of course since one of the main purposes of the union is for Octavia to drop a litter it seems odd for Anthony to be worried about that. An while Anthony doesn’t know about Agrippa he knows Octavia isn’t a virgin (Glabius, Pompey). I feel a little cheated that we didn’t get to see Atia react to the news that Octavia would be the bride. Octavian spying on his mother and Anthony was creepy  . And since they went to all the trouble of replacing Pirkis with an adult actor when are we going to see some Caeser skin
.
I don’t think Antony was giving it to Octavia in the backdoor, I think he just likes doggy style.
Eh - hard to say. Judging from brothel art, I’d say everything was the norm. Google for “pompeii brothel fresco”. It probably goes without saying, but the results are NSFW.
Ah, an episode of hot, dirty sex followed by the world’s most lavish and unhappy wedding. Brought to you by HBO.
Those previews go by so fast! Pausing them doesn’t help.
Maybe Vorenus’ daughter will end up with the funny-tasting willow tea.
They’re sure compressing time, aren’t they? She’s been boinking that guy for a few months?
Did the previews look to you guys like Vorenus and Pullo will be at each other again? It’s so hard to tell.
I don’t like Gaia but I do like watching manipulative woman. I keep comparing this to The Sopranos, and Gaia reminds me one of Tony’s early girlfriends, the one played by Annabella Sciorra. Risky business she’s playing!
From the previews:
I’m pretty sure that Eirene is going to be getting the abortion poison. There’s a shot in the upcoming scenes where Pullo comes running out frantically covered in blood. I can’t imagine any other scenario. He’s not the type to get all bent out of shape over someone getting killed and it seems that something bad happening to Eirene is about the only thing that would rattle him.
All in all I thought this episode was fabulous. It had some priceless lines out of Antony. I loved the way he so matter of factly propositioned Octavia, and him spitting on his fingers to get things started was a nice touch. His comment about not marrying Octavian was hilarious.
Lots of good sex in this one too. Pullo and Gaia in their nasty, S/M session was good times and there was even a dash of Agrippa/Octavia fun.
Cripes. The thread title intrigued me, so here I am. And I am totally LOST. No, wait, I can’t say “Lost,” people will think I’m talking about the one on the island after the plane crash. I am entirely at sea. It reads like a conversation about Dallas, except for being set in the age of the Caesars.
Somebody throw me a bone here; is there a primer thread for this “Rome” thingy? I’d sure be grateful for a link.
Great episode. So much sex. . .
Antony-Atia
Vorenus’ daughter-that guy
Agrippa-Octavia
Antony-Octavia
Pullo-Gaia (super sex scene. She revs my engine, let me tell you. She is sex.)
And I’m probably missing something.
Some good violence. Excellent death scene.
I hope the Jewish story isn’t over. I’ve been assuming all along that it’s some sort of birth of the the Jesus legend. . .Timon has to become a teacher, or something.
I’m sure the RU-486 that the woman mixed up was going to be given to Pullo’s wife. . .she was specific about not being able to taste it. Not such a concern for Gaia if she was taking it herself.
The problems with the Gaia-Pullo sex scene were: no boobage (my complaint) and no Pullo buttocks (the wife’s complaint). She was bouncing around enough there that something should have popped out during the course of the scene.
Yeah, I’m not sure they’ve actually showed her breasts yet. We’ve seen most of the other women’s, including Octavia’s, but I don’t think they’ve shown hers.
I might be wrong.
They were shown when she and Vorenus had sex.
I hope we’re done with the Timon subplot. I resent the time spent on him, when I’d rather see more of Vorenus & Pullo or Mark Antony and company. There are so few episodes left!
Every single scene with Mark Antony is gold. “… and it bit the arm off of a perfectly good groom!”
I love watching Atia’s face - that innocent “What did I do?” expression she gets. She’s a horrible person, yet it’s amazing at the amount of sympathy I feel for her.
(I watched the Pride & Prejudice movie this weekend, and it was weird seeing creepy-adult-Octavian as the goofy Mr. Bingley.)
“Now that. . .is an exit.”
Servillia’s servant offered her willlow tea to sleep, so it is probably a common remedy which she-Pullo will whip up for Eirene.
