Romney run as Democrat

Is there any chance that Romney could run this year as a democrat or is it too late. I believe he could carry a lot of republican votes

Lol no way

He might carry a lot of Republican votes but he would carry very few Democratic votes, so the answer to your Yes/No question is indeed “Lol no way”

I’d be cool if he were to run as an Independent though. Split the R vote.

Why would Democrats vote for someone who is going to try to outlaw abortion, put Kavanaugh klones on the court, and cut taxes for the rich again?

Why would we need to bring in a Republican? It’s not like we’re lacking for Democrats who are running for the Democratic nomination.

But as a Massachusian, I did like my Romneycare. (He doesn’t like you to call it that. He signed the bill, but they made him do it!)

Republican voters would probably see him as a traitorous “Never Trumper”. He’s also pro-choice. He was extremely dishonest in the 2012 election, but Trump makes him look good.

Sounds like a sure vote-getter for the Democrats!

An elected Republican Senator running as a Democratic presidential candidate?

If your question is, ‘Will Mitt Romney speak at the Democratic National Convention, then I’d say your answer is highly unlikely but not a zero chance. Zig Zag Zell Miller spoke for George W Bush after being a Democrat and speaking for Clinton in 1992 and Joe Lieberman spoke for McCain in 2008 after running with Gore in 2000. There’s plenty of other examples.

I’ll take him over a more hard-core republican but he wouldn’t win a democratic primary. He isn’t a Democrat.

He is just a republican who wanted witnesses in an impeachment. That doesn’t make him a Democrat.

If that happened, I hope I’m allowed to write in for Mickey Mouse.

I write in Gilbert Gottfried on my local ballots.

Tell it to Mike Bloomberg.

I choked on my coffee when I saw thread title, and almost leapt over to the Barbecue to start a thread there. Romney is quite sane by GOP standards, but falls far to the right of anyone on the D stage.

How about if Biden promises to keep building The Wall, to ban abortions, and to give every American a free gun? That might be a way to get a lot of Republican votes.

(I don’t know why some jokester mentioned Bloomberg, a lifelong Democrat except for one 6-year stint — he quit the GOP 13 years ago. Let Romney adopt the “(D)” right now and I’ll consider him … in 2032.)

It would be good to see Romney run as a Dem, it would be evidence that the path of opportunism runs to the left.

The one thing Romney could do is pull a Jim Jeffords and flip the senate to the Dems should he have the power to do so. I highly highly doubt this, but it would depend on his relationship with McConnell.

Romney is 72, of course with the age of Trump and most of the top Democrats, that’s still a bit up there. I’m sure Romney we also entertained the idea that if Trump resigns or doesn’t run again for health reasons, Romney could make a good choice for VP under Pence with absolutely no risk of losing a Senate seat.

Yes. And whatever his credentials as a moderate might have been, the fact he’s not done this makes him part of the problem, not the solution.

OP has started another thread suggesting (seemingly opposite to this thread :smack:) that D’s join the R party! I’ll discuss how I feel about that when the thread is moved to the Pit.

No. And it has nothing to do with whether it’s too late.

He’s a conservative Republican who supports the GOP agenda pretty much across the board. End of story.
