I can imagine that for a lot of Americans, Romney’s tone does not bother them at all – precisely because it’s the tone of “the boss” and to them the natural order of things is that there’s a boss and he tells you what’s what and does not owe you explanations, and of course there will be tension in the boss’ voice if you keep questioning him. To that segment of the population it’s Obama’s tone that’s a problem, because it’s “professorial” and that tone means (to them) the person’s showing off how much more book-learning he’s got and implying that you are ignorant of some important fact.
It’s really not his fault. It’s actually how all Mormons give speeches (talks). They learn it from a very young age. Look up the term (general conference) on google and go to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) web site filled with examples of what I mean. From infancy Mormons are taught not only to speak this way, but idolize those who have it mastered. They believe it is “humble” “enlightening” “Joyful” (In my head I hear Bueller… Bueller…)
For others looking in, it gives us the creeps.
(especially the women on that above named website)
Above all, try not to take it personally, all Mormons seem pretty condescending at first. Then you realize that they are just close minded robots.
Nice of you to weigh in. Welcome to the Dope, and this 4 year old thread, which was of any consequence the last time Romney was.
I actually thought it was a new thread, because Romney has of late been trying to explain to people why Donald Drumpf is such a disaster for the country.
Closing this. It’s old and to bump it just to slam Mormons seems silly.
