I am sort of surprised you endorse him, though. In addition to opposing the war, he also opposes us getting involved in Sudan, the UN, the income tax and the cabinet, and wants to bring back the gold standard.
Ron Paul is a good man. He’s a Libertarian who’s a Republican because unfortunately anybody with the word “Libertarian” under their name on the ballot is pretty much unelectable.
Truthfully, I think that anyone who wants to go back to the gold standard doesn’t really understand economics. And I’m not sure why you’d want to get rid of the cabinet… any CEO needs his assistants and specialists. Does he want to reduce their power? Other than that… seems decent to me.
He doesn’t want to get rid of the Cabinet, just most of the Cabinet departments. He believes things like the Department of Education, of Energy, of Health and Human Services, the SEC, the IRS, Social Security, etc. are unconstitutional encroachments of federal power.
Well, I entirely agree, in theory, but… darn, where’s my … Aha. In this thread I discuss reforming the Republican party. I made the note that, while my ultimate goals may not be too different from Mr. Paul’s, I think a gradualist method may be best.
In short: Yeah, so… there’s something wrong with wanting the government to butt the hell out of your life?
