He was a mutation - he had unusually thick hair on his face and a harelip, which combined to make him lion-like.
He wasn’t an alien or a creature, just a mutation.
He was a warrior with a poet’s soul.
Duh.
Like Guanolad said, there were no indications he was anything but a human with some interesting birth defects (The lip seems to be more or less completely cosmetic, as he lacks a speech impediment.).
All the other characters were completely human, so there’s no indication Vincent was any different.
