Rookie Spiced Nuts advice sought

Last year I asked about cookies and you all graciously helped me out. Many cookies have been cooked and eaten since then.

But since that time, I have eaten some spiced nuts and can’t get them out of my head. I love them all - the spicy-hot kind, the vanilla-sugar kind, etc - so I want to try a few batches for my Christmas presents this year.

I am an utter rookie at this sort of thing. I don’t even know where to start. I have a recipe in a book that promises that they’re the best spiced nuts ever, but I’d like a bit more variety than that. It seems like the possibilities are endless.

Anything to look out for? Any recipes that I shouldn’t miss?

Thanks!

I wrote up a step-by-step on how to make my Maple Spiced Nuts on LiveJournal about 3 years ago. There’s even pictures included, along with some other recipes. The recipe shown I was using pecans and salt and cinnamon as seasoning, but this is very flexible–you can mix in any raw nuts, and experiment with seasonings. I particularly like using something close to a pumpkin pie blend, with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves.

I make these every year for the holidays to give away, and I get special requests for them.

Yum! Thanks!
