Just saw this over the weekend. Great movie.
So glad Brie Larson got the Oscar for her performance. The boy was great also.
Reading some miscellaneous trivia about the movie on IMDB it seems Shailene Woodley was up for the lead role also. Holy crap, that would have totally ruined the movie for me. I can’t stand her acting.
I wonder if the Divergent movies would have been any better without her.
Any escape plan would have to work without tipping off Old Nick. It would be pretty hard to, say, tunnel through concrete without his finding out about it, since he comes into the shed pretty regularly. One thing that could have worked is trying all the combinations to the door lock.
The issue of whether the shed as shown could have been an effective prison doesn’t really bother me, though. The movie isn’t a documentary about how to build an escape-proof cell.
If you liked Brie Larson’s performance in Room, you should check out Short Term 12. She’s really good in that, too.
Any reasonable electronic lock like that isn’t going to let you just brute force it. It’s going to lock out after a certain number of attempts. Hell, for all she knows it’s hooked up to something that will alert him whenever it’s used.
