Is it theoretically possible to cross genus/species
breed a Rooster (genus/species–Gallus Domesticus) with
a Gorilla (genus/species—Gorilla Gorilla gorilla gorilla)
using the technology of Genetic Engineering?**
One question; why? Why are you attempting this? Assuming you succeed with this cross-breeding program, what hypothesis will you prove or disprove? What new information will you gain? What’s the point?
Unless there’s a point, this is sounding more and more like a plot to a bad, grade B sci-fi movie found on the Late, Late, Late Show on some UHF station.
There aren’t actually any “strands of silk in the milk.” What’s happening is that the goats are producing the silk proteins in their milk, which are then extracted and made usable. The milk contains nothing that you’d recognize as “silk.”
I’m sure you knew this already, but some other people can be a bit slow to catch on…
Incidentally, I forgot to mention the early Cold War project of the 1950’s to create a “robot monster” cyborg, in which a robot head (fashioned from a diving helmet and a set of TV antennae) was grafted onto the neck of a gorilla.

Hi Feyr,
ROOSTORILLA is just one example of a transgenic hybrid.
Perhaps one of our Genicist Posters can calculate
the number of possibilities (from bacteria thru the
primates) and give the classification name for these
possibilities.
What’s the point?
Have you read Bill Joy’s expose on robots and
nanotechnology in wired magazine?
Projection of the Future:
If you or your mate is away on a business trip,
which would you prefer to leave, or be left with,
a seductive transgenic hybrid or a seductive robot?
If projections for robots succeed (see “human in
the loop”) in “developing” emotions, then how would
it make you feel if you did not know for sure as
to whether you were debating with a human or a robot
on “GREAT DEBATES”?
