Rose Marie RIP

Rose Marie has died. She was 94, and much loved. RIP.

Just saw this. I didn’t realize she was still alive. She was on TV sporadically after her run as Sally on Dick Van Dyke, I loved her appearances on Wings as Roy Biggins’ mother. She started her career as a little girl singing on the radio, in film, and on the stage. The ribbon she usually wore in her hair was a trademark that started back then. So she was a star not only all during my life but well before I was even born. Her imdb listing starts in 1933! She always played a tough, sarcastic, single woman as I recall, a persona larger than the individual roles. She didn’t have the big leading roles of some other women in show biz but her bio is amazing. We’ve lost a real talent here. Good night Rose Marie, sleep tight.

She was still alive!?

This year there was a documentary on her life: Wait for Your Laugh (2017) - IMDb

This leaves Carl Reiner (95), and Dick van Dyke (92) as the remaining adult stars of the Dick van Dyke Show.

I’ve mentioned her multiple times on this board.

To quote John Byner on The Tonight Show, “When they built the first stage,” Rose Marie “was there to hold a hammer.” :o

RIP.

very sad to hear this and I literally JUST started following her on twitter :frowning:

She was one of a kind. RIP.

this link has a clip of her singing as a child; I had been wanting to hear that.

what a talent!

Hmmm. <takes Flyer off ignore>

Until today, yes. In fact, she was active on Twitter just a few days ago.

I saw the documentary Wait for Your Laugh, mentioned by Prof. Pepperwinkle in post #4, at the Angelica Pop-Up Movie Theater in Washington D.C. on December 2nd. After the show, they did an interview by telephone with her. So less than four weeks before her death she was still doing interviews and just a few hours before her death she was tweeting.

Bad news. I’m still recovering from the death of Herman Glimscher.

The cast collectively had a great run with only Mel Cooley dying young. Buddy died long ago but was in his mid-80s. Now we’ve lost all 3 ladies in less than a year.

Morey Amsterdam and Rose Marie were good friends long before the DVD show. I believe it was Rose Marie who got him the gig.

I always liked her character on DVD - even when I was too young to really understand it.

Recently watched S1 - man, Rob was a dick! Found the ages of the actors interesting. And little Ritchie was in NOTHING else after.

Sally, Laura, and Millie?

Another that didn’t realize she was still alive. She was so clever and funny, she will be missed. She and Morey Amsterdam could have had their own show.

Yes, though I was wrong, Millie was June 2016 not 2017. So in 18 months we lost all 3.

They did do a movie, it was not good though.

RIP Rose–what a career you had! You even got to play mother to The Monkees!

I’ll miss ya, Sally!
