On Tuesday our big, old collie (15yo) started a fight with our young male dog – not the first time, Jack has done this before. Bax fought back, the Wife jumped in to grab Jack and Jack bit her all over the arm. Jack is not aggressive, he’s lost some sight and I think he freaked out and thought it was Bax on top of him. So, ER visit, antibiotics, etc for wife.
Jack has been lying down for two days, not eating or drinking. We have a vet appt in a few hours and I’ve been petting, talking, and crying with him (he actually seemed like he was dying). Then, he sat up a bit ago and ate a lot and drank – he’s now much more alert, cleaning his paws, looking around. We’ll go with our trusted vet’s opinion on his health and make The Decision (I have every faith in our vet’s opinion, so if he’s ok or not we’ll go with it).
Animal Control came this morning due to the ER’s bite report and we found out that NONE of our dogs are licensed. In California getting a rabies tag automatically licenses pets. Not in our city, as we found out. So now I feel all ghetto and we have to license everybody within five days or get a summons.
Wife needs to go back to doc today, her hand is really swollen.
Well, shoot. It’s hard when pets get older. I’ve got one myself right now. We’re trying a new medication to help mine with anxiety and pain. He seems more comfortable. You might ask your vet about that aspect of things. If Jack is uncomfortable, it could be making him less tolerant of Bax.
Sending all the hugs to you and your wife, and Jack (and Bax). {{{Hugs}}}
Aw, I am so sorry for dog and wife. Maybe humane muzzle when he is out and about to prevent more problems. I have been bitten by a friend-dog I was trying to help, I didn’t blame the dog, just the situation. He was injured and in pain and lashed out to his first reponders. So, I know your wife’s pain. Hang in there, you will get through this.
Oh dear… I am so sorry. I feel very stressed for you after reading that. My dog Sweetie and I send major hugs, and Max, Tikva, and EC (cats) send kitty head bumps, too. (Max asked me to include some sardines. They always help him feel better.) Seriously, let us know how Jack is doing.
So, Jack has a nasty infection from an ear bite. Got massive antibiotics injections - he’ll live to see at least another day. A reprieve of sorts . . .
Wife’s paw is really swollen, we’re headed to the ER. Concerned about infection because Jack’s is icky.
I’m so very, very tired and have had a cruddy headache all week I suspect is a sinus infection. Blerrgghh.
Wow, I’m so sorry to read of all this suck in your life! Sending healing, calming vibes to the whole bunch of you. Fingers crossed that everyone starts getting lots better. Real soon!
Yeah, we were way more worried about Jack the Lad than Susan (hee hee). It was actually our vet who told us to go to ER immediately. I wish she could be my PC doc.
Jackie is a magnificent boy. He doesn’t know he’s 112 in dog years and can’t take on young buck pups anymore.
Trilby died years ago, but the coyote network still remembers her nearly silent woofs to remind them that her park is protected and I haven’t seen one in years. They know who can kill them. Who would LOVE to kill them. Ever notice how a Rough Collie’s bottom canine teeth are angled out? That’s so the dog doesn’t have to slow down to gut a wolfish thing. Run alongside, lean over, and Bob’s your uncle. :eek:
