Not long ago I had the good fortune to record Vince Gilbert doing a Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong impersonation of the jazz song “'Round Midnight.” But I wonder if his rendition is a mythical meeting of those two performers, as I can’t find a recording of Lady Day & Satchmo doing it (most Google references to “round midnight” are generic to “around midnight” = “jazz time late at night,” not specific to the song).
Does anyone have reference to this performance, or is it something Vince Gilbert made up (and quite well, IMHO)?
