Router Advice needed

My roommate and I just went over to Cox cable and signed up for a cable modem. We both have our own computers. We decided the best way to share the cable modem was with a router. This has the added benefit of being a strong firewall. I looked at a number of hardware sites to find a product that was reliable while being inexepensive. I found a product that got great reviews everywhere I looked. It also has a very reasonable price tag of $109.00. There is also a $20.00 rebate. It is the Netgear RT314.
Here is a link to a description of the router.

I think I will make this purchase. I just wanted to see if any Dopers out there had a dissenting view point about the product.

Thanks.

That’s the same one I have, and it rocks. As I told you already, the filters are a bit cryptic, but there are a lot of good sites with info for it. It supports PPoE and dyndns, which is great for me, since my DSL uses PPoE and I run a web server from home, with a dynamic IP addy.

Here are some good links for you:
This is the DualBoot.net networking forum I think you’ll find it useful.

anonymizer.comSo you can look at your webserver. If you don’t do this, the IP that dyndns will send you to will register as the netgear interface login, from inside the firewall.

DSLreports.com security scan for when you start fixing the holes in your filters. I suggest buying 20 bucks worth of points so you can have priority testing as often as you’d like for a couple weeks.

Neo2048’s rt314 site

DrTCP’s awesome generic stealth filter sets, on dslreports.com. I HIGHLY reccomend these, they will show your computer to be perfect stealth for all scans, including DSLreports privacyscan(linked above), HackerWhacker and GRC.com’s Shield’s Up!.

I have more, but I’ll wait until you actually get the thing first.

Have fun!

One thing I forgot to mention. You obviously won’t show up as full stealth if you are running a webserver. Port 80 will be open.
