We may be using Roxul AFB (Acoustical Fire Bats) for interior sound deadening in a home we building. I’m concerned about the fact that they use formaldehyde in its manufacture. I posed that concern to our builder and this was his response: “In speaking with our insulation contractor about Roxul and formaldehyde they feel that it should not be a concern because it is in a post reactive state and would not emit any formaldehyde into a room.”
So I’m thinking the “post reactive state” thing is just rhetoric and what they really mean by “would not emit any formaldehyde into a room” is that they think it’ll be okay because it’s sealed inside the drywall. So I’m worried that formaldehyde fumes will be inside our walls waiting to be released in small doses every time we hang a picture.
Is anyone familiar with this product? In this new age of people to turning to building “green” houses, using a product with formaldehyde seems like a doubly bad idea.
Any advice would be appreciated.
