RTA worker goes that extra mile

My daughter currently rides the Cleveland Rapid Transit to and from work. Today, she went to the W117th rapid station, chatted with the RTA cop on duty, then sat down to wait for the next train. She was a bit distracted, lost in thought, and when the train came in she hopped on board, leaving her purse behind on the bench. She didn’t realize this until the next stop, where she quickly got off and took the next train back to W117. Of course, her purse wasn’t sitting there, but she spoke to the cop again, and he had found the purse and turned it in to the attendant…who had gone off duty and left 5 minutes before. There was no new attendant coming on, so the cop radioed in and was told that procedure was that the going-off duty attendant take all lost and found items to the E 55th station.

So my daughter got back on the train, and headed for E55. On the train were two other RTA employees going off shift, and they made sure she found her way to the proper office. But her purse wasn’t there. They couldn’t locate the attendant, who wasn’t due to come back on duty until 1:30. After much phone calling they found out that he had locked the purse up in the lock box back at W117…not proper procedure at all.

So needless to say, my daughter is now stressed out (she’d chosen that morning to quit smoking) and already late for work, and had not purchased an all-day pass because I was giving her a ride home, so she can’t even get back on the train to get to work. So the RTA guy at the E55 station drove her to work in the company vehicle…drove her all the way back to W150th and got her there just an hour late at 10 am…he could have just given her a free ride pass. And then, he drove to the W117 station at 1:30, retrieved her purse from the lock-box and drove back to her job and delivered the purse to her!!!

Wasn’t that nice? My daughter immediately wrote a letter to RTA singing his praises, but I just wanted to celebrate his kindness here!

So did anyone do anything nice for you today?

Yay! That’s very cool.

Something nice someone did for me today…hmmm…well, our new part-time guy did come in to cover for a full-time person who is out sick. Maybe he did it to help me, or maybe he just wanted the hours, but I’m grateful, anyway!

Wow. 24 hours and only two good deeds done. This is sad.

that is nice.
Kittenblue, I live here too; we use RTA all the time.

Something good?
Well, Monday the lady at the laundromat gave me 2 huge bags full of clothes from her son for mine.
Wo!
Not to mention a beautiful winter jacket.
