Sometimes life gives you a good moment

I work near the Moorgate tube station. There is a small deli near the station that I stop at nearly every day on the way home from work, usually to grab a Vitamin Water or some other beverage.

About three months ago I ran in, headphones on. I grabbed a Vitamin Water and gave two pounds to the lady working. Got £1.20p back in change. Turned around and walked out while putting the change in my wallet. Got out and half-way down the stairs, when something clicked. Waitasec - there’s no way Vitamin Waters are £0.80. I got too much change back. I run back up - sure enough, I got too much change back. One of the young kids in the back came out and thanked me.

Fast-forward to yesterday. I had picked up some flowers for my Much Better Half, and also had my work bag with me. Picked up a bottle of water. Paid for it, put the change in my pocket, run down stairs and hop on the train.

And get home to find that…I can’t find my wallet. Shit. I’m trying to think back to where the last place I would have used my wallet, and am getting ready to make a bunch of phone calls to start shutting down credit cards, etc, when I get a phone call on my work Blackberry.

The guys at the store had my wallet. Apparently I had set it down on the counter while re-arranging water, flowers, bag, iPhone etc. By the time they realized my wallet was there I was gone.

This morning I swung by to pick it up. The young kid who had thanked me three months ago was there in person to make sure I got it - apparently he’s the store manager or something. Everything in my wallet was still there, every penny.

It restores my faith in our future, I tell you.

Sometimes it’s nice to be able to think that good karma can come your way. Anyone got some ‘good karma’ stories?

My neighbor left me a bottle of ginger ale last weekend on my porch when she heard I wasn’t feeling well. It meant a lot. Also I took my dog out for an ice cream and ordered them and went to pay. I only had a dollar on me and thought I had a five. The girl said don’t worry about it and took the dollar and served us our ice cream. I thought that was nice.

My friend has a metal detector and spends hours at the beach looking for treasure. One time he found a $3000 diamond and gold ring. As he was leaving the beach he saw a lost-ring sign on the guard-house. He called the number and the woman described it perfectly. When he brought her back her engagement ring she was so happy she started shaking and crying. He refused to accept a reward.
