He’s another one jumping on the “Republicans have to change their message” bandwagon. One of them will get the nomination in 2016. But they and the “double down on principles” crew are going to tear each other up until at least 2014 before that reality sinks in.
I still don’t understand the undying fascination with Jeb Bush. I know he has links to the Hispanic community and he was the governor of Florida - although of course you could have given the Republicans Florida in 2008 and 2012 and they still wouldn’t have come close to winning - and he’s got links to the Hispanic community, but that really doesn’t sound like enough to me. And he seems to be changing his mind about immigration reform a bit.
The fascination is the recognition that there is an extremely well-financed power center that is activated whenever any Bush is mentioned. And it’s honestly hard to argue with the theory that a faction that could get Dubya elected should never be underestimated. Jeb doesn’t seem particularly bright, but compared to his brother he’s Richard Feynman.
Exactly this. And the fact he is pretty much the only Republican at this point with national name recognition who is capable of making a speech or being interviewed and not instantly alienating 50.1% of the voting public.
Of course, maybe those two things go hand in hand.
Paleocons are all about restricting immigration and scaling down federal government and social conservatism. How do you think Tea Partiers feel about those things?
Holy crap you almost gave me a heart attack! I was worried for a second this fool wouldn’t be eligible to run for President. Thankfully it looks like both his parents were U.S. citizens just working in Canada at the time of his birth.
As for the Tea Party folks - I doubt they will have any problem finding a reason why his situation is different. I just hope he ends up somewhere on the ticket in 2016 or 2020. His obnoxious nutbaggery would pretty much guarantee a Republican defeat.
