Best line by a Dem (and overall, IMHO), was Biden’s line about the typical Rudy sentence being a noun, a verb, and 9/11.
John, IMHO, Rudy is trying to run on family values, just not in the usual way, since he’s kinda handicapped in that respect. But he’s telling the fundies that he’ll give them the things that they regard as the political expression of family values - he’s said he’ll give them judges and Justices along the lines of the current Supreme Court conservatives; he’s said he’ll block gay rights measures that Congress passes; he’s cozied up to Pat Robertson, who presumably discussed Rudy’s future social policies with him before endorsing him; etc.
Yes and no. He’s saying he’ll keep the feds out of these things and leave it to the states. If he comes out in support of a federal ban on abortions or a federal constitutional amendment banning SSM, then I’d say he was campaigning on a Family Values theme. I’d says he’s trying to minimize the loss he’s going to get because he’s not your standard GOP pol. Can’t fault him for that. But I agree with him on keeping the feds out of state matters, and I ain’t no Family Values type. It’s entirely plausible that he sees this as a federal vs state matter as opposed to a “Family Values” vs “lets not legislate morality” issue. The fact that he’s packaging those views so they are more palatable to the conservative base is just smart politics. It’s not even clear that it’s working, btw.
Looks like Rudy’s campaign is changing its story about Judi’s police protection:
Not only that, but once again, they had no official relationship. I mean, can the mayor of NYC extend police protection to any of his friends who receives some sort of threat? Did Clinton fall down on the job by not detailing Secret Service agents to protect Monica Lewinsky once she became a household name?
Anyway, it’s possible that Rudy’s crew may have to change their story some more:
Rudy is not only an adulterer but he left his family when he did it. He had the police walking his girlfriends dog. If he sees this as ok. Where does he stop.
He has Kerek and many dirty financial transaction to avoid explaining. He is what I detest in a pol. Dirty and selfish.
