It looks like another national security election in 2016 after Paris attacks, ISIS, and defense spending. Can you see a GOP candidate like a Marco Rubio or a Jeb Bush picking Former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani (1994-2001)? Giuliani can appeal to the working class outerboros (Staten Island, Bensonhurst, Brooklyn) type that the GOP may need in 2016?
I don’t see it. There are photosof him wearing dresses. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it would hurt his chances. He did so poorly in 2008, I don’t see him as viable. Plus, he’s got immigration baggage that will piss off his base.
Also, isn’t he pro-choice?
Yes, Giuliani is pro choice. However, he gives them a chance to win NY, NJ, DE, PA, NH. Giuliani can win some boroughs from the Democratic Party, even Staten Island, which is a Blue collar Irish / Italian borough.
Frankly, if New York were in play, then the Democrats would be in such deep doo-doo* that the Republicans would win the general election in a walk regardless of their VP choice.
*To use a George H.W. Bush phrase
He can help the GOP in Staten Island and Queens. Working class Italian/Irish swing voters. Giuliani Democrats.
First we take Manhattan, then we take the world.
Or the state.
Individual boroughs don’t mean much compared to the entirety of New York State, which has been pretty safely blue for a good while now. Noun Verb 9/11 Giuliani is not exactly appealing to the more conservative states, which will matter given that Trump and/or Carson isn’t going to be in the top spot. It will be some relatively moderate establishment Republican who will need someone to shore up his right side. Rudy will fail to do that.
My message to you: Rudy is not going to go one step beyond where he is now in the GOP.
Guiliani sacrificed his entire political future when he claimed that the 9/11 attacks never happened. I’m still not even sure what he sacrificed it for-- Such a claim would be absurd enough even coming from someone who wasn’t basing his entire campaign on that event.
Gi911ani is a pompous blowhard. His only fucking claim to fame is being mayor during 9/11 and he won’t stop fucking talking about it. For some reason the networks show his ugly puss on television to talk about terrorism from time to time, as if he knew his ass from his elbow about it. His 2008 campaign was pathetic and now that we’re 8 more years removed from the favorite day of his life, he has even less appeal now.
Giuliani is respected because he defeated David Dinkins in 1993, and he won Staten Island and Queens.
I’m not sure you’re using the word “respected” correctly.
It’s still a year off until the election. A year ago, it was all Ebola, all the time. Republican vice presidential picks have been a crap shoot. There’s the pundit short list types like Paul Ryan and Jack Kemp picks but then the out of the blue types like Palin, Quayle, and even Cheney.
I really don’t think a Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz want to remind people of the early 2000’s with a Giuliani pick for VP. Giuliani has mainly been on the C list in conference speaking engagements and a 3rd choice fill in for news shows that can’t get McCain or Lindsey Graham. He won’t be the VP, no person with nothing more than a mayorship has been nominated in modern times.
No considering you have TRUMP in the race. Its like expecting people to choose a Trabant or a Yugo over a Ferrari.
In 2012, Obama won New York by more votes than were cast in Queens and Staten Island combined.
How about when the Ferrari has a bomb wired to the ignition?
I’ll sweeten the deal and put a hand warmer in the Yugo’s back window.
Bah. I bet you thought Perot had a chance, too.
Then – at least, if the bomb is plutonium-based – you can use it to time-travel to the 1950s!
Which is what these stupid RW shitbags really want anyway . . .
I rather doubt it. Nobody remembers that now and nobody gives a shit what boroughs he carried. All he does now is get in front of a camera from time to time and masturbate about 9/11. He’s a one-trick pony.
Oh goody, he can spring Bernard Kerik, his main man, from jail and make him head of Homeland Security, since he lost out last time.
Pretty impressive, as long as you don’t take too much time thinking about the people who voted for him in 1993 who have died in the 23 years since. What has he accomplished in living memory? Especially considering the number of regisrered voters who weren’t even born when Giuliani beat Dinkins.

Some of the Giuliani coalition is still alive. They’re in Staten Island, Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn. Some moved to Long Island, Florida, Virginia. They’re influential.
