Rug Pads?

Can anybody suggest a good brand of cheap rug pads, that hold well, rug to carpet?

We pulled up our wall-to-wall carpeting and went back to wood floors and area rugs three years ago. Since then we’ve tried all kinds of cheap rug pads and they fall into two categories.

  1. Don’t hold well, or

  2. Don’t hold well AND stick to the wood floors so badly you’re afraid trying to peel them off will damage your newly refinished floors.

Maybe the ones with rubber and felt work better.

I don’t think they exist because rugs shouldn’t be laid on carpet.

If you’re looking for rug on carpet (instead of rug on hardwood), we’ve had excellent results with carpet tape. I think we just got whatever brand was cheap on Amazon. We just taped strips along each side of the rugs, and they haven’t moved since.

Saturn Dreams, I agree with you, but we’re renting, so what’re ya gonna do? At least most of the house is hardwood, it’s just the hallways that have carpet.

Did that mess up the wall-to-wall?
Damage it?

Excellent question! I just pulled up the rugs to check, and the carpet is completely unmarked. We’ve only had it down for about four months, though, so I make no promises for longer periods.

In consultation with the boyfriend, it appears that what we got was this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Roberts-Indoor-Outdoor-3-in-x-15-ft-Double-Sided-Carpet-Tape-Roll-50-605-12/100645279?N=5yc1vZc1tc

In that four months, we’ve had zero carpet drift. If you have pets or children, I don’t know if your results would be quite as good, but we’ve been pleased.

^^^Another vote here. Just looks tacky.

Hmmm…
