I seem to remember a rule against announcing one has opted to “Ignore” another poster, or even to discuss Ignoring them, but I can’t find the reference.
Is it rude or warnable to mention Ignoring?

I recall seeing mentions of that, too. So at worst, it’s a mellow group psychosis.
Or what he said.
Ah, that was a link to another thread; I thought it was an in-thread link.
Thank you very much.
Doesnt one particular poster make a habit out of this?
Am I allowed to put myself on my Ignore list? And if so, how would I know? Am I allowed to announce (outside the Pit) that I’m ignoring myself?
Assuming we’re thinking of the same poster, he had a habit of posting on his own blog that he was ignoring some SDMB posters (and then linking to his blog in his SDMB posts). He was told to cut the crap, and as far as I know he did - at least outside the Pit.
I’m pretty sure you can’t.
Yes but it’s ok to do in the Pit.
Try it, it’s not going to break your computer.
Frankly, everyone should put someone on their ignore list just to see how it works (you can take them off). You should always tinker with your CP settings.
I tinker three times a day, sometimes 4. Highly recommend it.
We’ve played with this before. IIRC, you can’t ignore yourself or any moderator/admin. Anybody else is fair game, although their posts still appear inside quote boxes.
How do you handle the inevitable calluses?
Back at you, little one.
What, exactly, is the rationale behind the rule that you ARE allowed to name your ignorees in the Pit?
After all, any such knowledge divulged in the Pit doesn’t stay in the Pit. If I mention in the Pit that I am ignoring <insert name here> , everybody who reads that (including <insert name here>) will know it even when they later participate in other threads. So, whatever evil may arise out of naming ignorees could still happen?
It’s not that it’s evil, it’s that it’s an insult.
“You’re a stupid poopy-face and I don’t have to look at your stupid poopy-face posts any more! So there!” (this is intended as an illustration, and not directed towards anyone in this thread, on the SDMB, or anywhere in the world. Any resemblance to actual persons living or dead is unintentional.)
I figure “ignored” is a pretty mild insult, but whatever.
The rationale is that telling someone that they are on your ignore list is an insult. Like other insults, it is prohibited in most forums but allowed in the Pit.
When ignore lists were first allowed, it was prohibited to mention who was on your list even in the Pit, because it was just too lame. Later it was decided to treat it like any other insult.
I tinkim.
It says “We can’t help you ignore yourself.”
Yeah, right!
