I get that message when I try to change the desktop background. The system doesn’t crash, but I can’t change things. Does this mean my system is due for a crash?

What is the exact error message please?
I’m running Windows XT. I don’t recall the message at the moment but I’ll repeat the mistake that created the problem and post tomorrow exactly what message I got and how I got it. We had an ice storm and all sorts of services are out, and I’m posting at the library at the moment.
