Computer Experts, Help Me: Problems with Explorer

When I start Windows, this error message appears:

Explorer: This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

When I press the “Details” button, this is what appears:

EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 0167:bff9db61.

I then press “OK” and the error message comes up again 3-5 times. When it finally disappears and lets me into the desktop, my active desktop background is missing. I do a desktop recovery and restore it. Each time I start Windows, no matter how I shut down, this always happens. I don’t know what the problem is or how to fix it. Please contact me if you have any suggestions for what to do.

I can’t believe I’m posting about something like this, but I dunno what else to do. sigh Pwease help me!

Try turning active desktop off, and see if the message returns. Also, try disabling other resident utility programs (the ones that inhabit the system tray).

You may need to restart in Safe Mode in order to get to the necessary screens.
